It’s still winter here on the East Coast, making it seem like we’re trapped in a terrible Groundhog Day scenario, but we’re getting through it. Circuit Breaker Live is getting us through. The show, as usual, will be live today at 4PM ET on YouTube here or above. Today’s episode will have a vague Pi theme: we’re showing off Android P (Android Pie?) and its design changes. Dan Seifert’s also bringing Chinese smartphones onto the show, and he will discuss why they haven’t broken through in the US market. Finally, Nilay, Paul, and I will take your calls for Emotional Tech Support. As a reminder, we aren’t going to help you make purchase decisions, but we’ll support you emotionally. Survey finds that Millenials are most attached emotionally to Apple as a brand
Hot on the heels of the Consumer Intelligence Research Partners report that Android users turned out more loyal than iOS ones last year, comes an arguably more important study, basically saying the opposite. You know the Millenial generation is all-important now that it has started to replace the Baby Boomers from all levers of power, right? We kid, but the Millenials are a a favorite target for brands big and small, so when a study says your brand is at the top of their pile, marketers should listen. The one that younger consumers feel the most emotional attachment to is... you guessed it... Apple , based on a survey of 6000 respondents in the US, Mexico and UAE. The survey is aptly called Brand Intimacy, and is administered annually by the MBLM brand awareness agency. Google is at a 7th place as far as emotional reactions go, yet one of its brainkids - YouTube - has wiggled into third place, although it is part of Google. Why emotional intelligence is key for creating a strong corporate culture
What is it that defines a corporate culture? Is it fun social outings? Always having a full snack cabinet? It’s not just mentally, emotionally, and spiritually draining; it can physically impact health.Global nonprofit Catalyst defines this as an Emotional Tax: “… the heightened experience of being different from peers at work because of your gender and/or race/ethnicity and the associated detrimental effects on health, well-being, and the ability to thrive at work.”Examples of Emotional TaxSome of the more horrifying examples from the research include a 47-year-old black man in construction, who says, “I’m treated as an equal until something negative about my race is in the news or [a] conversation. Then I feel the different treatment.”A black, 27-year-old woman who works in telecommunications reported, “I love my job, but I have been told my superiors won’t promote me based on my physical appearance. I wish I … [Read more...] about How to lower the Emotional Tax on minority employees
