One year ago, on Feb. 6, SpaceX blasted a Falcon Heavy rocket into space and sent Elon Musk's personal Tesla roadster off on a journey through the cosmos to the tune of David Bowie's Space Oddity, with a spacesuit-wearing Starman dummy at the wheel. There's a lot about that last sentence that sounds insane, but it happened. Programmer Ben Pearson runs the Where is Roadster? website, dedicated to tracking the Tesla's trip around the sun. Let's check in to see the latest stats.According to Pearson's calculations as of Wednesday morning, the electric car is 226,423,581 miles (364,393,544 km) from Earth and 163,525,522 miles (263,168,899 km) from Mars. Getting humans to the Red Planet is one of Musk's goals for SpaceX's under-development Starship spacecraft, but the Roadster won't actually run into Mars.Good luck getting any repairs done on the Roadster. It's exceeded its original 36,000-mile warranty more than 13,000 times over. If the battery is miraculously still working … [Read more...] about Elon Musk Tesla still orbiting one year after SpaceX launch
caption Elon Musk owns over $70 million worth of Los Angeles real estate. source Pascal Le Segretain/Getty Elon Musk may be the world’s richest rocket scientist. The 47-year-old CEO of Tesla and SpaceX and cofounder of OpenAI has said he won’t be happy until we’ve escaped Earth and colonized Mars. Luckily, he has the mind and the money to make it happen. Despite a massive net worth hovering around $23.6 billion, Musk has never taken a paycheck from Tesla, refusing his $56,000 minimum salary every year. Back in March, Tesla shareholders approved a plan awarding Musk $2.6 billion in stock options, reports CNBC, which will vest in 12 tranches, or portions, as the company hits key milestones over the next decade. The $2.6 billion amount was March 21 current stock value. U.S. News notes that if Musk meets the goals and the stock value rises during that time period, it “could net him more than $50 billion.” In January, Tesla announced … [Read more...] about Elon Musk is worth about $23 billion and has never taken a paycheck from Tesla — here’s how the notorious workaholic and father of 5 makes and spends his fortune
By Rolfe Winkler The Wall Street Journal Tim Higgins Fri., Dec. 28, 2018 Tesla Inc. named a pair of new independent directors—including Oracle Corp. Chairman Larry Ellison, a tech-industry luminary who has been a public booster of the company—to a board that has been under fire for its oversight of Chief Executive Elon Musk. Tesla on Friday said that Mr. Ellison and Kathleen Wilson-Thompson, the global head of human resources for Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc., had joined its board effective the day before. Their addition fulfills the terms of Tesla’s September agreement with the Securities and Exchange Commission to settle claims that Mr. Musk misled investors when he claimed this year to have funding to take the Silicon Valley car maker private. The additions bring to 10 the number of active directors on Tesla’s board, which in the past two years has added two other outsiders to a group stacked with longtime Musk allies. An 11th … [Read more...] about Tesla board adds Oracle’s Larry Ellison, a booster of Elon Musk
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has claimed that the brake pads on Tesla vehicles never need to be replaced, despite the user manual stating they must be replaced when worn out — like every other car on the road. A Twitter user recently noted that perfectly regenerative brakes on Tesla vehicles would not be possible as the cars still use brake pads which are subject to wear and tear and will need regular replacement. Tesla CEO Elon Musk disagreed with this statement saying that “Brake pads on a Tesla literally never need to be replaced for lifetime of the car.”However, as pointed out by a Twitter personality tweeting as “Deepak CFO,” Tesla’s own manual states that: “squealing sound indicates that the brake pads have reached the end of their service life and require replacement.” In a Reddit post, a Tesla owner stated: “Took delivery of my model 3 on the 31st, and have since noticed that my rear brakes are squealing at low speeds … [Read more...] about Elon Musk: Tesla Brake Pads Never Need to Be Replaced
