Ask anyone you know with a smartphone as to what music service app they have on their device, most would probably tell you Pandora – and that’s with good reason. Apparently, Pandora claims to own a commanding 71.5% share of the US market after they recently announced their earnings report.Flexing its muscles, Pandora confidently announced that it has surpassed 150 million users in the United States alone, and more importantly, they also claim the title of having the second most downloaded app in the Apple’s App Store history.During its first quarter 2012-2013 fiscal year, the music streaming giant manage to grow its business by adding on a record 51.9 million active users, which is an impressive 53% increase from last year. LG Electronics posted its Q1 2017 earnings report today, and things are looking pretty great for the company on pretty much all fronts. Its operating profits are up 9.7 percent over the same period last year, though its mobile division saw only 2 percent year-over-year growth. The increase in smartphone revenue, which for Q1 2017 was 3.01 trillion won (USD 2.61 billion), was helped by the launch of its latest flagship, the LG G6, though its March 10 release date left it little time to leave a considerable mark on the company's profits. However, unit shipments increased by ten percent over Q1 2016, reaching 14.8 million units, which, as the report claims, is "in large part due to the Americas".Apart from that, the LG Vehicle Components Company was the biggest winner of the past quarter, with its whopping 48 percent year-over-year increase in profits, while the LG Home Appliance & Air Solution Company had its best quarter since 2009.As for the near future, the report doesn't … [Read more...] about LG’s latest earnings report shows 10 percent overall yearly growth, 2 percent in its mobile division
Sony has just released its Q1 earnings report, the first for 2013, and it's a bearer of good news: the company is firmly back to profitability!Overall revenue saw a massive increase of 13% year-on-year, at $17.3 billion, primarily due to the favorable impact of foreign exchange rates and smartphone sales. The Japanese giant recorded a rather frugal, albeit expected, net income of $35 million (which is still better than last year's net loss of $252 million). The even better news is that it is the Mobile Products & Communications divisions that have re-invigorated Sony. Namely, revenue has increased 14% year-on-year (currency fluctuations excluded) to nearly $4 billion, largely because of a “significant increase in unit sales of smartphones and an increase in the average selling price of smartphones”. Sony moved some 9.6 million smartphone devices in Q1, a healthy increase from the 7.4 million handsets it moved in the same period last year. Operating income was at $60 … [Read more...] about Sony outs Q1 earnings report, firmly back to profitable thanks to smartphone division
The number one wireless carrier in the country is still chugging along looking extremely healthy amidst fierce competition and when most of the country is still walking off the economic downturn. They’re growing at a decent pace which doesn’t look like they’ll be relinquishing their titles as number one after they reported their Q4 2009 earnings report. Verizon Wireless, which is owned by Verizon Communications and Vodafone, reported revenues of $13.2 billion; which equates to a 22.5 percent increase over the same period last year. Those figures were aided by the estimated 2.2 million total net customer additions in the quarter which also includes the 1.2 million new retail customers. Although gaining more customers is a good thing, it’s actually countering the fall of its average monthly service revenue per user (ARPU) – it decreased 2.2 percent versus last year to $50.75. Standing at a staggering 91.2 million customers, a 26.6 percent increase from its … [Read more...] about Verizon reports strong growth in Q4 2009 earnings report
The four major U.S. carriers usually hold a conference call on the phone with analysts and financial reporters immediately following the release of their latest quarterly earnings report. This morning, when T-Mobile announced its Q3 numbers, it cancelled the conference call. Wells Fargo said that the nation's third largest carrier wanted to "let the 3Q results speak for themselves." But that might not be the real reason for the cancellation.A little bit after T-Mobile cancelled its conference call, the wireless operator's rumored merger partner Sprint revealed that it will report its third quarter results tomorrow at 7am EDT. At the same time, the nation's fourth largest carrier said that it too will not hold a conference call following tomorrow's report. There is speculation that both T-Mobile and Sprint were going to announce their merger during one of the conference calls, and the cancellations mean that there is a delay as both sides continue to negotiate. In this scenario, a deal … [Read more...] about T-Mobile, Sprint cancel post-earnings report conference calls; is merger imminent or delayed?
