"Please delete 2 million files to continue using your Google Drive account." That was the message that Reddit user ra13 woke up to one day. Google apparently decided to put a hard limit on the number of files you're allowed to have on one Google Drive account. Google rolled out this file limit without warning anyone it would happen. Users over the limit found themselves suddenly locked out of new file uploads, and it was up to them to figure out what was going wrong. Did we mention this all started in February? A post on the Google Drive API issue tracker shows some users have been seeing this error for almost two months now. The original message said: "The limit for the number of items, whether trashed or not, created by this account has been exceeded." And sometime in March, it was updated to say, "Error 403: This account has exceeded the creation limit of 5 million items. To create more items, move items to the trash and delete them forever." Since there is nothing anywhere … [Read more...] about Google Drive does a surprise rollout of file limits, locking out some users

Surviving a Zombie Apocalypse: Just Do the Math
This equation could spell your doom: (bN)(S/N)Z = bSZ. That is, if you ever found yourself in the midst of a zombie pandemic. That's because the calculation describes the rate of zombie transmission, from one walking dead individual to many, according to its creators, Robert J. Smith?, a mathematics professor at the University of Ottawa who spells his name with a "?" at the end, and his students. Smith's work has inspired other researchers to create zombie mathematical models, which will be published with Smith's work in the upcoming book, "Mathematical Modeling of Zombies" (University of Ottawa Press, 2014). Though of course done tongue-in-cheek, Smith's study demonstrates why zombies are the viruses of the monster world. Their likeness to viruses makes the creatures ideal subjects for theoretical epidemiological analyses, which can be used to capture the public's imagination as well as explore scientific principles, Smith said. These are the three most in-demand tech skills this year
It's a tentative time for the tech industry. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, tech sector employment fell by 11,184 positions in February. Unemployment is creeping upwards, rising from 1.5% in January to 2.2% in February. While we're not facing a critical situation, there are signs that things are slowly but surely starting to take a downturn. However, we know that during times of uncertainty or even recession, not all tech jobs are affected equally. FNC’s Carlson: Indictment an Unprecedented Step Permanent Washington Has Taken to Stop Trump from Holding Office in a Democracy
Thursday on FNC’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” host Tucker Carlson opened his program with condemnation of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s pursuit of an indictment of former President Donald Trump. Carlson called the move by the borough’s top prosecutor an “unprecedented step” used to stop a second Trump presidency. Transcript as follows: CARLSON: So obviously, this indictment is something brand new, the beginning of something, but it is also the culmination of something. The culmination of an effort to make certain that Donald Trump is never elected President again. That was the whole purpose of the January 6th Committee, obviously. So far it’s not working. Trump is leading the Republican field for the nomination by a wide margin. In Georgia, a partisan grand jury whose forewoman is giving interviews to MSNBC is apparently also preparing to charge Donald Trump with a crime of doubting election results. You are not allowed to doubt election results in Georgia, … [Read more...] about FNC’s Carlson: Indictment an Unprecedented Step Permanent Washington Has Taken to Stop Trump from Holding Office in a Democracy
Rocket Report: ULA Centaur stage has an ‘anomaly,’ Virgin Orbit funding is dire
Welcome to Edition 5.31 of the Rocket Report! We're about to tip over into April, and all signs continue to point to the likelihood of a Starship orbital launch attempt this month. Lack of cybersecurity training is leaving businesses at risk
Businesses are putting themselves at risk of all kinds of cyber-attacks due to poor practices when it comes to educating and training the workforce. A new report from Yubico, found less than half (42%) of UK businesses it surveyed held mandatory, frequent, cybersecurity training. There are many things employees could be taught, which would improve the cybersecurity posture of organizations, the report further suggested. For example, roughly half (47%) often write down, or share their passwords (opens in new tab) - which is one of the most common mistakes when it comes to safeguarding a password. Resetting the password Elsewhere, the report found that many workers (33%) allow other people to use their work-issued device, while more than half (58%) use personal devices for work. A similar percentage (49%) do vice-versa, as well, by using a work-issued device for personal use, which is another cybersecurity red flag. Finally, half (48%) have been exposed to … [Read more...] about Lack of cybersecurity training is leaving businesses at risk
Zombies and Prosthetic Limbs? The Many Uses of 3D Scanners
Ever wonder why the zombies in the film "World War Z" appear so lifelike? It's not just makeup — some of them were created with the aid of high-tech scanning technology. The company Artec, based in Luxembourg, develops handheld 3D scanners that have been used for everything from Hollywood special effects to the development of prosthetic limbs. The technology makes it possible to create a digital model of an object in the real world, which can then be manipulated with computer design software, said Leonid Volkov, chief business development officer at Artec Group. [ Gallery: 3D Scans in Hollywood and Hospitals ] If, for instance, a company such as Lucas Films, Disney or Pixar (all Artec customers) is working on new 3D animated movie, and the producers want a glass of water to appear in the animation, "you have just two choices — scan it or draw it from scratch, which is much more expensive and time consuming," Volkov told Live Science. The makers of " World … [Read more...] about Zombies and Prosthetic Limbs? The Many Uses of 3D Scanners
Japan restricts chipmaking equipment exports as it aligns with US China curbs
Japan said it will restrict exports of 23 types of semiconductor manufacturing equipment, aligning its technology trade controls with a US push to curb China 's ability to make advanced chips. Japan, home to major chip equipment makers such as Nikon Corp and Tokyo Electron Ltd, did not specify China as the target of the restrictions, saying manufacturers would need to seek export permission for all regions. "We are fulfilling our responsibility as a technological nation to contribute to international peace and stability," Minister for Economy, Trade and Industry Yasutoshi Nishimura told a news conference. Japan wants to stop its advanced technology being used for military purposes and does not have a specific country in mind, he said. But the decision, coming ahead of a weekend visit to Beijing by Japanese Minister for Foreign Affairs Yoshimasa Hayashi , will be seen as a major win for the US, which in October announced sweeping restrictions on access to … [Read more...] about Japan restricts chipmaking equipment exports as it aligns with US China curbs
