Following the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank, reviews of the company’s internal practices have revealed that loans to insiders tripled to $219 million before the bank failed. Bloomberg reports that last month, Silicon Valley Bank failed as a result of a $42 billion bank run from investors and depositors. The bank’s internal problems have come to light due to the collapse, and regulators are starting to look closely at the bank’s operations before its demise. EAGLE PASS, Texas – Local police arrested a human smuggler after discovering two migrants crammed into luggage in the suspect’s vehicle. The 23-year-old suspected smuggler from San Antonio was accompanied by her five-month-old infant. The bust occurred on Saturday afternoon near the Rio Grande. Police initially noticed a suspicious vehicle at Jando Guedea Park in the afternoon hours. Officers stopped the vehicle after the driver committed a motor vehicle infraction. Police interviewed the driver identified as Brianna Nicole Starkes. Police say she appeared nervous and gave inconsistent answers. Police were reportedly then given permission to search the beige Kia Soul. Officers noticed suitcases in the vehicle. One was located next to the five-month-old infant secured in a car seat. EAGLE PASS, Texas — A Del Rio Sector Border Patrol agent reportedly shot at a suspected human smuggler after the suspect allegedly attempted to strike the agent with the vehicle. The incident took place along the Texas border with Mexico near Eagle Pass. A source operating under the umbrella of U.S. Customs and Border Protection told Breitbart Texas that a suspected human smuggler attempted to back his vehicle into a Del Rio Sector agent late Monday night. The smuggler then reportedly attempted to flee from the agent. The Border Patrol agent then shot at the suspect to stop the assault, according to the source. It is not clear how many shots were fired.  EMS personnel transported an unidentified injured person from the vehicle to an area hospital. The injuries are reportedly not related to the shooting. LONDON (AP) – British lawmakers voted overwhelmingly Wednesday in favor of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s deal with the European Union to rewrite the rules on Northern Ireland trade. The House of Commons voted 515-29 to back a key portion of the agreement, which is designed to resolve a thorny trade dispute that vexed U.K.-EU relations and triggered a political crisis in Belfast. But Sunak faced a rebellion by about 20 fellow Conservatives, including his two immediate predecessors. Former prime ministers Boris Johnson and Liz Truss had both said they would vote against the deal. Johnson, who led Britain out of the EU in 2020, said the deal was “not acceptable” because it kept some EU laws in operation in Northern Ireland, restricting the U.K.’s ability to diverge from the bloc’s rules and “take advantage of Brexit.” A hard-Brexit group of Conservative Party lawmakers known as the European Research Group also said it opposed the deal. Development on the foldable iPhone apparently continues as a recently discovered patent application suggests Apple is looking for a way to better protect its device from falls. Available on the website of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (opens in new tab) , the application is called Self-Retracting Display Device And Techniques For Protecting Screen Using Drop Detection. Quite a mouthful, but it does succinctly describe how Apple may aim to minimize damage to the screen. As it’s described, the device will have some kind of sensor inside like an accelerometer. If it detects the iPhone is falling, the sensor will signal an “electronically adjustable latching mechanism” to quickly snap the phone shut. After 15 years, DICE has announced that EA will remove Battlefield 1943 and Bad Company 1 and 2 from digital stores ahead of closing servers for these titles. Now Battlefield 2042 has been up and running for a few years; DICE has announced that starting April 28 2023, Battlefield 1943 and Bad Company 1 and 2 will no longer be purchasable in online stores. This move is a pre-emptive strike to ease these three games into retirement, as you also won’t be able to play online after December 8.
