Image credit: CadillacWhen you have an open road of 130,000 miles at your disposal, it’s easy to feel like you’re just cracking the surface of a new technology. That’s what happened recently after testing a 2018 Cadillac CT6 sedan for a week, driving along a highway during a morning commute and then all the way across an entire state for about three hours, all without using the steering wheel.Cadillac first announced Super Cruise several years ago, and it was a shot across the bow for competitors like Tesla, Mercedes-Benz and Audi – companies that are all working on similar tech. Tesla made the most progress until a fatal accident in 2016. Before then, it was possible to drive for long periods of time without touching the steering wheel. An update now forces drivers to hand-check to make sure they are paying attention. (Tesla owners have figured out though that they can wedge an orange or a water bottle in the steering wheel to trick the system.)With Super … [Read more...] about Testing Cadillac Super Cruise: is this the future of hands-free driving?
By Mashable Team2010-01-01 20:08:14 UTC The Internet uses vast amounts of energy — one Google search reportedly requires enough energy to boil a cup of water. However, the web is slowly but steadily "going green." The trouble is this means different things to different people. As more ways to lighten your web site's environmental footprint are found, it becomes increasingly difficult to choose the combination of steps that is right for your business. There are lots of reasons to green your web site. They range from economical to moral. Since not all energy is renewable and clean, we all have an obligation to go a bit greener. Here are 10 of the most common and effective ways to green your web site. 1. Environmentally Friendly Web Hosting This is by far the biggest step you can take to green your web site. As you drive to Berkeley from San Francisco, the constrained lanes of the Bay Bridge touch down on land, then split apart onto different highways, like sticks of spaghetti sliding from the box into the pot of boiling water. I’m about to reach this tangle of intersecting freeways, and about a mile before, I see the light bar in the top of the steering wheel go from green to red, and feel a sharp buzz in my chair. “Super Cruise disengaging,” I read on the dashboard. “Take back control.” Exasperated, I plop my hands on the steering wheel and return my eyes to the road full time, navigating the next few miles of highway old-fashioned-style until I hit my exit. The Cadillac foresaw this moment, and it didn’t have much confidence in its ability to navigate the great divide. That’s why, with plenty of warning, it turned off Super Cruise. Super Cruise, which launched on the Cadillac CT6 sedan in September, is General Motors’ answer to … [Read more...] about The Laser Maps That Let Cadillac’s CT6 Drive Like a Boss
Nearly two years after being announced, an all-Tesla racing series has been given full approval from the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the association that oversees Formula One and other major motorsports around the world. The ultimate plan for the Electric Production Car Series (known before as the Electric GT World Series) is to become the venue where manufacturers can pit their best-performing electric cars against each other. Since there is a dearth of performance electric cars at the moment, though, the series is starting with Teslas. Specifically, the field will be made up of race-modified Tesla P100Ds that have nearly 800 horsepower. The plan is to race on major circuits, like ones where F1 competes, though the series is still locking down scheduling, locations, and talent. It hopes to run the first race later this year. Still, getting FIA approval is a huge step forward. The organization is comically stringent, so this is not just some … [Read more...] about All-Tesla racing series gets the green light
The question we’re supposed to answer here is “should you lease this car?” If you live where it’s available, you should absolutely go get a Clarity. The Honda Clarity fuel cell vehicle is a brand new design for 2017, and it’s the first of three different vehicles planned for the platform. The other two are a standard hybrid and a plug-in hybrid, and they are expected to be released later this year. Vehicle Introduction & Overview Automakers have been talking about a hydrogen-electric car for decades, and various prototypes have been made and tested. Toyota was first to market with their Mirai, and now Honda has delivered the Clarity. Honda conducted a prototype beta test a few years ago called the FCX Clarity, and the test went well enough that the Clarity is now in regular production. Honda produced the Clarity for a couple of reasons. First, there’s strong political support to explore hydrogen as part of a general push toward clean power, and … [Read more...] about You can basically drive a brand-new Honda Clarity for free
