Donald Trump: New York Times Report on My Cell Phone Use ‘Soooo Wrong!’

October 25, 2018 breitbart Leave a Comment

President Donald Trump denied a New York Times report that his cell phone use allowed Russia and China to listen in to many of his phone conversations. “The so-called experts on Trump over at the New York Times wrote a long and boring article on my cell phone usage that is so incorrect I do not have time here to correct it,” Trump wrote on Twitter. The Times sourced their report to “several current and former officials” who criticized Trump’s phone habits, in particular, the use of a personal cell phone. But Trump denied the report. “I only use Government Phones, and have only one seldom used government cell phone,” he wrote. “Story is soooo wrong!” The report said that American intelligence reported that Chinese and Russian spies were intercepting Trump’s private calls, and using the information to better understand the president. … [Read more...] about Donald Trump: New York Times Report on My Cell Phone Use ‘Soooo Wrong!’

The first cell phone, Motorola DynaTac, enters the Supreme Court nomination drama

October 3, 2018 phonearena Leave a Comment

There is a surprising new entrant in the current Supreme Court nomination drama around Judge Kavanaugh and the allegations against his 17-year-old self by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford involving drunk frat boy behavior against her at a party circa 1982.A social media meme in rich circulation (yes, 4Chan is involved, too) claims that Dr Ford's insistence she called a friend on her cell phone after the incident doesn't really hold water. You see, the first commercial portable cellular phone, Motorola DynaTac 8000x, was released in 1984, later than the alleged incident took place. Moreover, argue the social media warriors at 4Chan, its $3995 price at launch made it highly unlikely that the then-student was in possession of one.Sounds very logical, until one pours through the letter that Dr Ford sent to the Senate Judiciary Committee on September 22, her opening statements or the hearing she underwent together with Judge Kavanaugh, and finds that not once is a cell phone call circa 1982 … [Read more...] about The first cell phone, Motorola DynaTac, enters the Supreme Court nomination drama

Robocaller spoofed real numbers to avoid angry call-backs to his own phone

September 27, 2018 arstechnica Leave a Comment

The Federal Communications Commission yesterday issued about $120 million worth of fines to two robocallers accused of spoofing real people's phone numbers. In one of the cases, the robocaller made 21 million calls overall and told the FCC that he spoofed real people's numbers in Caller ID in order to avoid angry call-backs to his own phone. In the other case, the FCC said the robocaller made 2.3 million calls including 48,349 that spoofed the number of a single person. That unlucky person ended up getting about five angry call-backs a day for two months, the FCC said. In the first case, the FCC fined telemarketer Philip Roesel and his companies more than $82 million. This is the same amount that the FCC proposed to fine Roesel a year ago—as is standard, the commission gave him a chance to respond before making the decision final. Roesel and his companies made more than 21 million robocalls from late 2016 to early 2017 attempting to sell health insurance, the FCC said. Roesel … [Read more...] about Robocaller spoofed real numbers to avoid angry call-backs to his own phone

Fortnite looks terrible on my Android phone and I love it

August 19, 2018 theverge Leave a Comment

As an Android user, I’ve been waiting a long time to play Fortnite on the go. First, there was the Nintendo Switch version, which I was incredibly excited about until I realized I couldn’t access my PS4 account on the tablet. Then, developer Epic announced that the mobile version of the battle royale shooter was expanding from iOS to Android, and it finally launched last week. For the most part, it’s just what I expected, apart from one major change: on my Galaxy S7 Edge, Fortnite looks like a low-poly PlayStation-era game. And I kind of love it. Once you get around the install process, Fortnite works surprisingly well on mobile. My phone isn’t exactly brand-new, yet the battle royale game runs pretty smoothly. I haven’t experienced any major slowdown so far, even when I venture into more populated areas with lots of players running around, or where elaborate structures are being built. Just like on iOS, the controls take some getting used to; a … [Read more...] about Fortnite looks terrible on my Android phone and I love it
