Audio player loading… After fighting tooth and nail to retain access to G Suite’s legacy free tools instead of being moved to a paid Google Workspace plan after an announcement in January 2022, some Google users got a fright recently. G Suite was a free iteration of Workspace, Google’s collaboration software , offering free email hosting , and, crucially, custom domains, from 2006 to 2012. Accounts created during this period are currently “grandfathered” into the service, meaning their owners don’t have to pay any additional fees while retaining all the benefits. After Google backtracked on making users start to pay for Workspace in 2022, G Suite users had to pinky promise to Google that they did not intend to use their account for business use and, after that, the matter seemed settled. Legacy G Suite transitions, or lack thereof In February 2023, however, a notification claiming that “the transition to Google Workspace has started” began … [Read more...] about Don’t worry, your legacy G Suite account still isn’t moving to Google Workspace

Maher: I ‘Don’t Trust the Government’ on Inflation Reduction Act after COVID Relief Fraud
On Friday’s broadcast of HBO’s “Real Time,” host Bill Maher stated that he doesn’t “trust the government at this point” after the massive amount of coronavirus relief fraud and he doesn’t trust the Inflation Reduction Act due to what a mess coronavirus relief turned out to be. Maher said that while the full Build Back Better plan didn’t pass, the smaller Inflation Reduction Act is “still kind of a lot of money. … I’ve just got to say, I always was sort of on this page, first of all, 3.5 — do you even know what’s in there? No. And also, I just don’t trust the government at this point. The money that they spent on COVID, half of that got stolen. Hundreds of billions of dollars, hundreds of billions that went to the PPP…program and unemployment, it was just stolen or given out to anybody.” He added that he doesn’t believe there should have been no aid, but “I don’t trust the next one when the last one was such a mess. … There was always this idea that you cannot transfer money … [Read more...] about Maher: I ‘Don’t Trust the Government’ on Inflation Reduction Act after COVID Relief Fraud
Don’t expect Apple’s AirPods Max 2 headphones to launch in 2023
Audio player loading… If you’ve been thinking about getting a pair of AirPods Max headphones, but are worried that a second iteration might be just around the corner, you can stop fretting – an Apple analyst says the AirPods Max 2 might not launch until late 2024 or even 2025. The Apple AirPods Max launched in 2020, but from an audio perspective they’re still the best Airpods you can buy today. In our four-star Apple AirPods Max review we called them "the perfect headphones for Apple devotees". Not only are they among the best-sounding headphones we’ve ever tested, but their noise-canceling capabilities are in the same league as those of the Sony WH-1000XM4 and the Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700 . That said, if you’re an Android user – or you’re on a budget – then these pricey $549 / £549 / AU$899 headphones might not be the best option for you. Plus, given the California-based tech giant’s usual cadence for new AirPods launches you might be hesitant to buy a … [Read more...] about Don’t expect Apple’s AirPods Max 2 headphones to launch in 2023
Nvidia RTX 4060 and 4050 GPUs spotted – but don’t get your hopes up too much
Audio player loading… Nvidia’s RTX 4060 and 4050 desktop graphics cards – the Lovelace GPUs which are of keenest interest to most people given their (hopefully) affordable nature – could arrive sooner than expected. Tom’s Hardware (opens in new tab) spotted that RTX 4060 and 4050 models from Shangke Group – a Chinese firm that makes graphics cards, and other components too – have been filed with the EEC (Eurasian Economic Commission). Typically, products are filed with the EEC when their release is nearing, so this is a hint that the RTX 4060 and 4050 are perhaps closer to launch than the rumor mill has otherwise indicated. Then again, we have to be very cautious around presuming too much from EEC filings, as they can be carried out early in some cases, or they can even be performed speculatively for placeholder products. In short, don’t set too much store in these listings, but they are nonetheless a tantalizing hint that we could see the RTX 4060 … [Read more...] about Nvidia RTX 4060 and 4050 GPUs spotted – but don’t get your hopes up too much
Dwarf Fortress financials mark fairytale ending for indie developer
In a nutshell: Various tech giants like Meta, Google, Amazon, and Apple posted negative quarterly and annual statements this week. Amidst the corporate gloom, it's nice to see financials that tell a hopeful story for a small company, especially one behind a game as popular as Dwarf Fortress. A month after the first commercial release of Dwarf Fortress, the game's developer revealed this week that it earned $7.23 million in sales. According to Bay 12 Games' comparison, the number eclipses returns from the previous four months by two decimal points. In each of the months between September and December 2022, Bay 12 Games brought in around $15,000, most of it likely from Patreon donations. After offering the immensely popular Dwarf Fortress exclusively as freeware for 16 years, the company released the first commercial version on December 6, and a few weeks later posted the astronomical January increase. In a post on the Bay 12 forums, the developers say almost half of the money … [Read more...] about Dwarf Fortress financials mark fairytale ending for indie developer
The Resident Evil 4 remake will drop a decisive feature
Audio player loading… With Resident Evil 4's remake less than a couple of months away, fans have been wondering just how faithful it'll be to the original game. In the case of one divisive mechanic, not so much. The Resident Evil 4 remake, launching for PS5 and Xbox Series X |S on March 24, is entirely ditching the quick time events of the original release. In an exclusive with Game Informer (opens in new tab) , Capcom confirmed that in their place will be more substantial gameplay elements such as side quests and new enemy types. These side quests will be scattered throughout the environment as collectible flyers, incentivizing exploration. They offer various objectives like killing certain enemies or solving various puzzles and riddles. What few side quests the original game had, such as shooting a set of blue medallions, are also set to make a return. New enemy types will be making their debut in Resident Evil 4 , too, one of which being a portly … [Read more...] about The Resident Evil 4 remake will drop a decisive feature
Apple Watch owners’ next must-have gadget is a sleep-tracking smart Oura Ring
Audio player loading… In a world in which you can get smart versions of almost anything, from speakers and watches to water bottles and running shoes, I find smart rings particularly fascinating. In some ways, they're the perfect wearable – unobtrusive, stylish and able to seamlessly blend with the rest of your outfit. However, they're far too small to pack a screen, so all the data it collects is only available in the corresponding app. Out of all the smart ring offerings available right now, the Oura Ring is the best-known and most adopted, topping our list of the best sleep trackers . The Oura Generation 3 is a solid wellness tracker geared towards monitoring sleep and stress rather than pure fitness, with seven temperature sensors monitoring your 'restorative time', an updated heart rate sensor, and a readiness score just like Garmin or Fitbit. The Oura Ring is a screenless wearable like most other smart rings, a chunky yet pretty ring designed to be worn on the … [Read more...] about Apple Watch owners’ next must-have gadget is a sleep-tracking smart Oura Ring

How to Disable Search In Windows
If you really don’t use Windows Search much, you can disable indexing completely by turning off the Windows Search service. You’ll still be able to search–it will just take longer without an index. RELATED: How to Choose Which Files Windows Search Indexes on Your PC If you’re thinking of disabling Search because it’s slowing things down, we recommend trimming down what files and folders are getting indexed and seeing if that works for you first. And if you’re experiencing crashes or inaccurate searches, try rebuilding your search index . You should also note that other apps–notably Microsoft Outlook–use Windows Search to allow searching within those apps, so you’ll have to do without fast searching in those, as well. That said, if you’re planning on using another search app or you just don’t search often and would rather not have the service running, Windows Search is easy to disable. Hit Start, type “services,” and then click the result. On the … [Read more...] about How to Disable Search In Windows
How to Use Different Wallpapers on Multiple Monitors in Windows 7
So you’ve just unpacked that spiffy new monitor, and it sits fresh and new on your desk putting your other little displays to shame. But now comes the conundrum—what if you want to use different images on different screens? In Windows 7, you have two options for using different wallpapers: you can create your own combined image, using your favorite image editor, or you can use a third-party tool like DisplayFusion or UltraMon . First, we’ll look at the manual way to make your own multi-monitor wallpaper. If you want something a bit more automated (that requires extra … [Read more...] about How to Use Different Wallpapers on Multiple Monitors in Windows 7
