NEW DELHI: According to IDC , the global shipments for PCs grew 55.2% year over year during the first quarter of 2021(1Q21). The report added that despite the shortage of chipsets the PC market witnessed a great first quarter. PC shipments reached 84 million worldwide in 1Q21 As per IDC, the continued resurgence in the PC market, as well as increases in average selling prices (ASPs), have primarily been driven by growth in gaming, the need for higher performance notebooks in the enterprise, and an increase in demand for touchscreens within the education segment. Ryan Reith, program vice president with IDC's Worldwide Mobile Device Trackers, said, "There is no question when entering 2021 the backlog for PCs was extensive across the business, consumer, and education. The ongoing shortages in the semiconductor space only further prolong the ability for vendors to refill inventory and fulfil orders to customers. Pine Labs acquisition to put Fave in India market
Mobile payment and e-commerce app Fave has been acquired by Pine Labs for $45 million, which will put the former in the hands of Indian consumers by year-end. The merger is touted to help drive both companies' expansion across Asia and markets such as retail, fashion, and food and beverage. The deal also would see Fave's founders take on roles to lead the platform's growth in the region, the companies said in a joint statement Tuesday. In addition, Fave would make more than 100 new hires in Southeast Asia and India, as it planned to introduce new payment features on its platforms, it said. The payment company, which acquired Groupon in Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia in 2016 and 2017, currently operates in 35 cities across the three Asian markets. Singapore retailers must reassess digital strategy post-pandemic Retail organisations that neglected to build a robust online infrastructure now should realise digital can no longer be an optional sideline and look to … [Read more...] about Pine Labs acquisition to put Fave in India market
Ant Group to become a financial holding company overseen by China’s central bank
Ant Group will apply to become a financial holding company that is overseen by China's central bank as part of efforts to appease regulatory concerns over the way it conducts its online payments operations. Pan Gongsheng, deputy governor of the People's Bank of China (PBOC), said in a statement that Ant representatives met with four of China's regulatory arms to address anti-monopoly concerns on Monday. In the statement, he also revealed that Ant Group has been working with the agencies in recent months to formulate "rectification plans" aimed at resolving these concerns. As part of the plan, Ant Group has agreed to apply to become a financial holding company that is supervised by the PBOC. It will also give consumers more payment method options and disconnect any "anti-competitive connections" between Alipay and other financial products, such as Huabei and Bibai, as part of the plan. The formulation of the "rectification plan" follows the suspension of Ant Groups's initial … [Read more...] about Ant Group to become a financial holding company overseen by China’s central bank

The cross-platform VPN is based on Wireguard and delivered in partnership with well-known and especially techie-friendly VPN provider Mullvad . Mullvad itself was, to the best of our knowledge, the first publicly available VPN provider to offer Wireguard support back in 2017 . The Mozilla VPN service costs $4.95 per month and offers server endpoints in 30-plus countries. It currently has VPN clients available for Windows 10, Android, and iOS—but users of other operating systems, such as MacOS and Linux, are going to have to wait. Mozilla says that support for MacOS and Linux is coming soon—but unfortunately, even if you're an advanced user who understands Wireguard configs, you can't just roll your own connection now. The service authenticates … [Read more...] about We test Mozilla’s new Wireguard-based $5/mo VPN service
Payments firm Trustly plans Nasdaq Stockholm listing
Swedish payments firm Trustly said on Monday it intends to list its shares on the Nasdaq Stockholm exchange. In January, Reuters reported that Trustly's owner, buyout group Nordic Capital, was in the process of hiring more banks with a view to launching an IPO in late April or early May that could value the firm at up to 9 billion euros ($10.70 billion). "We are going to raise 8 billion Swedish crowns primary proceeds that we will use to pay off existing debt facilities, and then we want to have a net cash positive balance sheet," Chief Executive Officer Oscar Berglund told Reuters. The appeal of financial technology companies has increased during the COVID-19 pandemic as more people shop online and make payments digitally to avoid physical contact. Other European fintech firms such as Wise and Klarna are also planning for a stock market listing. "This is sort of a process that we have been working on for a year now to prepare the company and make it ready for the … [Read more...] about Payments firm Trustly plans Nasdaq Stockholm listing
