April 19, 2018 - Written By Daniel Golightly Source code for Android P isn’t available just yet but early release to OEMs for testing has now allowed XDA Developers to get a glimpse of the OS running on Huawei’s Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro. For now, the test only seems to be taking place on the Chinese variant of the Mate 10, bearing the model number ALP-AL00. It was also able to be seen running on the Huawei Mate 10 Pro thanks to some internal rebranding undertaken by the source using Funky Huawei. So there’s not a lot that’s new about it. Moreover, developer previews shouldn’t be considered the end-all of any new Android version. There’s still a pretty massive array of changes expected with Android P and most of that won’t be present in the first preview. Huawei also has its own proprietary design language – shown on the device as EMUI 8.2 but expected to bump up to EMUI 9 by release. So some of the larger aesthetic changes … [Read more...] about Android P Developer Preview Tested On Huawei’s Mate 10
April 17, 2018 - Written By John Anon The latest Android Things developer preview from Google is now available. This is developer preview 8 and follows on from the last developer preview released in March, 2018. However, this new version is fairly notable as the release notes detail how developer preview 8 includes the final version of the API. Therefore, there is likely to be no major changes between this new version and the stable 1.0 version when it becomes available – as detailed in the release notes. In simpler terms, this is the final developer preview of Android Things. With this being an eighth developer preview there is little in the way of new features although the release notes do point out the latest version include an improved ability to manage APKs, as well as “new peripheral testing views” for the likes of the camera and the display. New supports have also been added including for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi peer-to-peer connectivity. While some aspects have … [Read more...] about Android Things Developer Preview 8 Now Available
Android Things OS is a lightweight version of Android, designed to run on Internet of Things devices (smart appliances, embedded devices, etc). The first Developer Preview was released in late 2016, and it has continued to receive updates since then. Most notably, Android Things will power the upcoming Google Assistant smart displays. Today, Google released Developer Preview 8 of Android Things, which features the final version of the API. In other words, there won't be any new API features added between now and the stable v1.0 release. Some of the new features include an improved location driver framework, a revamped InputDriver with more input types, and new Bluetooth functionality. You can install Developer Preview 8 on the Raspberry Pi 3, NXP i.MX7D, and NXP i.MX6UL development boards. More information is available at the source link below.
