THE CHEAPEST of the upcoming trio of new iPhones could land a whole month after its pricey counterparts, so you'll have to pay more if you want an Apple gadget come September. Of the three new handsets, the 6.1-inch LCD model is tipped as the cheapest at a rumoured $600-$699 (which should translate to £600-£699), while the 5.8-inch OLED iPhone XS could cost up to £800-£899 and the 6.5-inch OLED iPhone £900-£999. All three are expected to be unveiled on September 12, with pre-orders on September 14. But then things get a bit complicated. According to top Apple tipster Ming-Chi Kuo, the pricier handsets will reportedly land in September (possibly on the 21st), with the cheaper 6.1-inch LCD model arriving at a later date. Supply chain rumblings from Apple's partners indicated that the affordable handset was behind schedule by around a month due to issues with its display, meaning it could arrive in October. The gulf in price between the three models is … [Read more...] about Apple’s ‘cheaper’ iPhone model DELAYED – meaning you’ll pay more at September launch

WhatsApp Accelerates Payment Service Launch In India: Report
June 2, 2018 - Written By Dominik Bosnjak WhatsApp is accelerating its mobile payment service launch in India even as its efforts aren’t going completely in accordance with the original plan, Bloomberg reports, citing sources with knowledge of the situation. While Facebook’s subsidiary initially targeted four partners at launch, State Bank of India won’t be supporting its upcoming payment platform initially as it still has to conclude its technological preparations to do so. The technology giant will hence be taking on the likes of Paytm and Google in the mobile … [Read more...] about WhatsApp Accelerates Payment Service Launch In India: Report
Apple speeding up iPhone battery replacements ‘without delay’ just days after customer outrage over rip-offs
THE WAIT might finally be over for iPhone users wanting to take advantage of Apple's discounted battery replacement offer. The tech giant admitted last year that it had been throttling older iPhones, reducing their speed to keep their power ticking for longer. To make up for the sly move, Apple slashed the price of battery replacements to £25 (down from £79) until December so users could speed up their phones for a much more accessible price.iPhone owners took Apple up on its discount, substantial backlogs have arose due to dwindling supplies. Apple previously said that replacements for select iPhone models could be delayed until late March or early April. But according to an internal memo dated 27 April and distributed to Apple Stores and the firm's partners, Apple has confirmed that "service inventory of all iPhone replacement batteries is now available without delay”. Obtained by MacRumors from “a reliable source”, the notice is believed to mean that … [Read more...] about Apple speeding up iPhone battery replacements ‘without delay’ just days after customer outrage over rip-offs
When WhatsApp’s Fake News Problem Threatens Public Health
In remote areas of Brazil’s Amazon basin, yellow fever used to be a rare, if regular visitor. Every six to ten years, during the hot season, mosquitoes would pick it up from infected monkeys and spread it to a few loggers, hunters, and farmers at the forests’ edges in the northwestern part of the country. But in 2016, perhaps driven by climate change or deforestation or both, the deadly virus broke its pattern. Yellow fever began expanding south, even through the winter months, infecting more than 1,500 people and killing nearly 500. The mosquito-borne virus attacks the liver, causing its signature jaundice and internal hemorrhaging (the Mayans called it xekik, or “blood vomit”). Today, that pestilence is racing toward Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paolo at the rate of more than a mile a day, turning Brazil’s coastal megacities into mega-ticking-timebombs. The only thing spreading faster is misinformation about the dangers of a yellow fever vaccine—the very … [Read more...] about When WhatsApp’s Fake News Problem Threatens Public Health
