YouTube may soon have stronger punishments for creators who damage the platform’s reputation. CEO Susan Wojcicki outlined the company’s goals for 2018 in a blog post last night, the most notable of which is the promise of new policies intended to punish creators who do “something egregious that causes significant harm” to the community at large. “While these instances are rare, they can damage the reputation and revenue of your fellow creators, so we want to make sure we have policies in place that allow us to respond appropriately,” says Wojcicki. As it stands, the scope of YouTube’s punishments for outspoken creators who violate its rules are murky at best. The company’s policy tightening comes just weeks after a scandal with vlogger Logan Paul, who posted a video showing the body of a man who had recently committed suicide. His actions sparked loud and swift backlash, including YouTube removing him from its Google Preferred ad program. … [Read more...] about YouTube working on stricter policies to punish creators who do ‘significant harm’ to the community
Legion creator Noah Hawley announced at San Diego Comic-Con that he’s working on a film involving Fantastic Four nemesis (and the greatest supervillain ever created) Doctor Doom. Hawley wouldn’t offer any details about the Fox project, according to Variety, only saying, “I’ll just say two words. The first one is Doctor and the next one is Doom.” The announcement creates a whole host of questions about what direction the writer-producer will take the character in, and how the movie will fit into 20th Century Fox’s own Marvel film universe. Doctor Doom, otherwise known as Victor Von Doom, is a sorcerer and scientist who rules the fictional nation of Latveria with an iron fist. Though he’s the Fantastic Four’s archenemy, having appeared in all three of Fox’s failed Fantastic Four movies, he’s run into several several Marvel superheroes over the years. He even managed to take over what was left of the Marvel multiverse during the … [Read more...] about Legion creator Noah Hawley is working on a Doctor Doom movie
Netflix has a new period-piece show from creators Ben York Jones and Michael Mohan about dorks in the ‘90s, and it’s premiering on February 16th. Naturally, Everything Sucks! is already drawing comparisons to Stranger Things, because… ?? I guess because it also revolves around a group dynamic of geeky outsider kids who find girls scary, but are obsessed with the one who’s willing to talk to them. So far no one seems to have supernatural powers or even nosebleeds, but I’m a wait-and-see kind of woman. Just kidding, my dudes, because everything about this show makes me wonder why we need yet another nostalgia-bait teen drama about the ‘90s when we already have perfect shows like My So-Called Life or Dawson’s Creek to reflect on fondly. Everything Sucks! follows “high school misfits” in the A/V club during 1996, aka “the VHS era,” in a town called “Boring.” Hm. Even within the general constraints of “high … [Read more...] about Suggestions for the creators of Netflix’s ’90s drama Everything Sucks!

Abovitz didn’t reveal the specific price of the Magic Leap Creator Edition headset. However, when pressed, he conceded that it wouldn’t be a $200 mass-consumer device. Abovitz set the expectation that Magic Leap devices would be pricey, not only at launch but well into the future. “I think we’re pricing it—it’s a premium computer so that I would think of it that way,” Abovitz said. He added that the company isn’t pursuing a path to bring the price down … [Read more...] about Magic Leap Creator Edition Priced Like High-End Tablet, Smartphone
