Xiaomi Smart Air Fryer review: Smartly done

August 9, 2022 by www.gadgetsnow.com Leave a Comment

Rating Critic 4 Top Features Attractive design Smart functions Good cooking skills When it comes to cooking, home and kitchen appliances have always tried to replace and replicate the traditional ways of doing things. For starter, the grinding stone (silwata) and pestle and mortar have been replaced by mixer grinders and food processors. Then the world-famous tandoors has been replaced by microwaves and ovens. Pressure cookers are taking a hit from electric cookers and the list can go on. In the same way, air fryers are something that have recently taken over the deep frying cooking technique. , All the electric kitchen appliances are designed to make things easier and faster for users. However, air fryers are a little different. They are not only meant to make things easier, simpler and faster, but also make things healthier by offering a fried-like taste without actually deep frying them. Now, the concept of air frying … [Read more...] about Xiaomi Smart Air Fryer review: Smartly done

Best standing desk for home office and WFH 2022

July 22, 2022 by www.techradar.com Leave a Comment

The best standing desks around today can help offset and prevent a sedentary lifestyle. The health benefits they offer to those of us who spend all day in front of our computers can’t be understated. We are not meant to sit around all day. Sitting down too long – more than 8 hours a day – as stated by the American Journal of Public Health (opens in new tab) , can not only increase the risk of chronic diseases by 10% to 20% but premature death as well. UK's NHS points out (opens in new tab) that it also could slow your metabolism, which could impact "the body's ability to regulate blood sugar, blood pressure and break down body fat." Unfortunately, most of us spend a large portion of our work life hunkered down at an office desk (opens in new tab) , which is why a standing desk is a great investment. Even students going back to school should consider one for a healthier way to do homework. To help you make the leap to a healthier work life, we’ve collected the best … [Read more...] about Best standing desk for home office and WFH 2022

FTC aims to counter the “massive scale” of online data collection

August 11, 2022 by arstechnica.com Leave a Comment

The Federal Trade Commission has kicked off the rulemaking process for privacy regulations that could restrict online surveillance and punish bad data-security practices. It's a move that some privacy advocates say is long overdue, as similar Congressional efforts face endless uncertainty. The Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking , approved on a 3-2 vote along partisan lines, was spurred by commercial data collection, which occurs at "a massive scale and in a stunning array of contexts," FTC Chair Lina M. Khan said in a press release . Companies surveil online activity, friend networks, browsing and purchase history, location data, and other details; analyze it with opaque algorithms; and sell it through "the massive, opaque market for consumer data," Khan said. Companies can also fail to secure that data or use it to make services addictive to children. They can also potentially discriminate against customers based on legally protected statuses like race, gender, religion, … [Read more...] about FTC aims to counter the “massive scale” of online data collection

Global chip shortage: what is it, why is it happening, and when will it end?

July 8, 2022 by www.techradar.com Leave a Comment

Audio player loading… The global chip shortage, also called the semiconductor shortage, seems to have snuck up on everyone in the world, even though it's something that should have been obvious. Just about everything nowadays has silicon chips in it, from phones and computers to kitchen appliances and even cars. And all of this tech is becoming increasingly advanced, so the best processors aren't being reserved for just the latest gaming PC. This isn't the first time this has happened: major chip shortages occurred on several occasions previously, including in 1988 (opens in new tab) due to high demand and in 2000 due to a shortage of several Intel products (opens in new tab) . And then again in 2011, when an earthquake in Japan caused a severe shortage of NAND memory and displays (opens in new tab) . Chip shortages tend to happen due to either supply chain or human labor reasons. Yet rather than the industries that are so reliant on these chips … [Read more...] about Global chip shortage: what is it, why is it happening, and when will it end?

Intel’s loss is AMD’s gain as EPYC server CPUs benefit from Intel’s delays

August 3, 2022 by arstechnica.com Leave a Comment

Earnings reports for tech companies this quarter have been mixed at best. Apple , Microsoft , Alphabet , and others have managed to eke out a little growth, while the likes of Meta and Nintendo shrank a little, and most companies' projections for the next quarter are also less-than-optimistic. One company that has been hit particularly hard is Intel , which saw its revenues decline from $19.6 billion in Q2 of 2021 to $15.3 billion in 2022. The company's earnings presentation ( PDF ) showed weakness across the board for a variety of reasons: weaker demand for consumer PCs, money invested in getting the Arc dedicated graphics products off the ground, and "competitive pressure" in the server CPU market. That competitor is AMD, whose EPYC line of server processors was just one bright spot in a record quarter for the company . Revenue increased from $3.9 billion in Q2 of 2021 to $6.6 billion this year, with $673 million of that additional revenue coming from EPYC … [Read more...] about Intel’s loss is AMD’s gain as EPYC server CPUs benefit from Intel’s delays

bharti: How 5G is shaping up: Largely to be a duopoly with Reliance Jio, Airtel

August 8, 2022 by www.gadgetsnow.com Leave a Comment

5G. New Delhi, With Jio likely rolling out standalone 5G, Bharti Airtel would be under pressure to have a similar network in the coming years, foreign brokerage BofA Securities said in a report. 'In our view, this raises the risk of Bharti acquiring 700 MHz in the next auction (pricing likely to be similar to this auction). Even capex investments should be higher - first to roll out NSA and then standalone 5G,' the report said. , 'We hence see 5G-related investments as likely to remain high for a couple of years. We consider 5G largely to be a duopoly between Jio and Bharti in the consumer space and expect both Bharti and Jio to emerge as dominant players even in the consumer space with bundled 5G offerings,' BofA Securities added.
