meta: Meta to buy VR startup Within after favourable court ruling

February 7, 2023 by www.gadgetsnow.com Leave a Comment

A federal judge has sided with Facebook parent Meta and cleared the way for the company to buy virtual reality startup Within Unlimited , the maker of the popular fitness app Supernatural. Federal antitrust regulators had sought to block the acquisition on the grounds that it would hurt competition in the emerging virtual reality market. But US District Judge Edward Davila denied the Federal Trade Commission 's request for a preliminary injunction against the deal. The judge's ruling said the agency did not provide sufficient evidence to prove its case. Meta said it will now proceed with its acquisition of Within Unlimited. The FTC had argued that Meta's acquisition of the small company - reminiscent of Facebook's early purchases of Instagram and WhatsApp - would hurt competition in the emerging virtual reality market. meta: Meta can be sued in Kenya by ex-content moderator, the country’s court rules

February 6, 2023 by www.gadgetsnow.com Leave a Comment

A labour court in Kenya ruled that Meta , the parent company of Facebook , can be sued in the East African country after a former content moderator filed a lawsuit against it alleging poor working conditions. The lawsuit was filed by one person on behalf of a group and was also filed against Meta's local outsourcing company Sama. It seeks financial compensation, an order that outsourced moderators have the same healthcare and pay scale as Meta employees, that unionisation rights be protected and an independent human rights audit of the office. The decision from Kenya's employment and labour relations court could have implications for how Meta works with content moderators globally. The US company works with thousands of moderators around the world, tasked with reviewing graphic content posted on its platform. February 6, 2023 by www.gadgetsnow.com Leave a Comment

Apple had a mixed bag of fortunes last week. From a global perspective, despite iPhone 14 Pro supply problems sinking its holiday revenues, Apple was the only company to record a 1% growth in the quarter. The sale of iPhone 14 drove numbers for the company, suggesting that the popularity of iPhones is increasing more than ever. It seems that the Cupertino-based giant is looking to ride this popularity wave to either expand or rejig iPhone lineup in the future to include an " Ultra " model. iPhone Ultra in 2024 As per Bloomberg's Mark Gurman , Apple CEO Tim Cook may have hinted at an iPhone with "Ultra" branding in 2024. While speaking on an earnings call, which was mostly focused on holiday results, Cook's remakers purportedly gave a sneak peek into the company’s future. While responding to a question about the increasing average sales price of iPhone models, he said that the price increase is no problem as consumers could probably be persuaded to … [Read more...] about iphone: iPhone ‘Ultra’: Here’s why rising average price is not a problem for Tim Cook

icra: Indian IT services industry’s growth pace may slow down in near to mid term: ICRA

February 7, 2023 by www.gadgetsnow.com Leave a Comment

The growth momentum of Indian IT services industry is likely to slow down in the near to mid term as macroeconomic headwinds trigger lower discretionary IT spends, ICRA said. Ratings agency ICRA sees lower hiring by the IT service companies in the near term given that excess capacities were added in FY2022 and expects moderation in demand compared to previous fiscals amid macroeconomic headwinds. Indian IT services companies have witnessed a moderation in growth in the last two quarters in constant currency terms owing to the base effect and evolving macroeconomic headwinds in key markets of the US and Europe . Due to these headwinds, the decision-making towards discretionary IT spending has seen a slight deferment, while the cost optimisation deals continue to generate stable demand, it noted. icra: Telcos to shell out around Rs. 1.0-1.1 lakh crore on 5G auctions: ICRA

June 16, 2022 by www.gadgetsnow.com Leave a Comment

Ratings firm ICRA expects telcos to shell out around Rs. 1.0-1.1 lakh crore on the upcoming 5G auctions . Given the relaxed payment terms however, the upfront outgo is likely to be around Rs. 10,000 crore for the industry. Additionally, the firm said the industry needs to shell out Rs. 17,000 crore annually towards spectrum instalments, till the moratorium ends. While payments rules have been relaxed for the upcoming auctions, ICRA believes that participation in the auction will add to the industry’s overall debt since it will add to the deferred spectrum liabilities. ICRA expects industry debt levels to increase to around Rs. 5.7 lakh crore as on March 31, 2023, before moderating to Rs. 5.3 lakh crore as on March 31, 2025, despite fundraising attempts by Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea . The addition of deferred liabilities is expected to keep the debt levels elevated. ICRA expects the debt metrics to improve steadily going forward given its … [Read more...] about icra: Telcos to shell out around Rs. 1.0-1.1 lakh crore on 5G auctions: ICRA
