In total 20 Bethesda titles will appear in Xbox Game Pass on Friday, including Dishonored , Doom , The Elder Scrolls , Fallout , and Wolfenstein. Microsoft says 16 of the games will also be available across Xbox, PC, and xCloud, and that “a handful of these games will also benefit from FPS Boost on Xbox Series X / S.” This means some games will even include frame rate improvements, using the new Xbox FPS Boost feature that was announced last month . I couldn’t buy a PS5 so I built my own console – and lost my mind in the process
Towards the end of 2020, when Sony’s PS5 launched and rapidly sold out, I had one of my all-too-rare Very Good Ideas – instead of buying a new console, I’d build one myself. The logic was (kind of) pretty sound. For a start, getting hold of a PS5 was proving to be impossible – and many people are still having trouble getting hold of one. I’d also recently upgraded the GPU in my main gaming PC to an Nvidia RTX 3090 . This meant I had an RTX Titan, still a phenomenal graphics card, sitting in a drawer. Any PC I build with that is going to easily out perform the PS5 or Xbox Series X . Finally, the backlog of PC games I have is huge . Why buy a PS5, then buy yet more games, when I had countless games sitting on my Steam, Epic Games Store and many other accounts? Also, let’s face it, neither the PS5 or the Xbox Series X’s launch lineups were mind blowing. There was nothing there I’d feel I’d be missing out with sticking with PC – literally in the case of the Xbox, as … [Read more...] about I couldn’t buy a PS5 so I built my own console – and lost my mind in the process
Netflix’s Cecil Hotel documentary is a dangerous, bloated mess
Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel, the latest hit documentary on Netflix , is a terrifying watch. But not for the reasons you might expect. Focusing on the notorious Cecil, a grim hotel in downtown LA, it tells the story of Elisa Lam, a Canadian student who went missing in the hotel under mysterious circumstances, before later being discovered drowned. It's a true crime documentarian's dream. Grainy security footage shows Lam, spooked and strange, in an elevator communicating hysterically ... to another person? A demented spirit haunting the Cecil? Who can tell? Later, mimicking the actual plot of Japanese horror classic Dark Water, Lam's decomposing body is found face up in the hotel's water tank. Residents had been drinking, washing and brushing their teeth in murky water from that very tank for days before she was discovered. With a mystery like that, and a legendary director in Joe Berlinger (previously responsible for classics like Brother's Keeper and … [Read more...] about Netflix’s Cecil Hotel documentary is a dangerous, bloated mess
Man finds his PC infested with bugs of the six-legged kind
WTF?! PCs and bugs. They’re two words we never like seeing together, especially when the latter refers to the insect variety. One Reddit user discovered this when he returned home to find his CPU and GPU infested with “crazy ants.” Lazylollipop posted a video of the crazy ants, which get their name from their frantic and erratic movement, having a party inside his rig, scurrying around his NZXT cooler and Sapphire Nitro+ graphics card. My CPU/GPU got infested by ants when I was gone for a month. I played games and ran benchmarks so they would come out cos of heat. Also left my pc running overnight but they still inside. Help from r/pcmasterrace Like other ants, these crazy insects are attracted to electronic devices such as car stereos, circuit boxes, and, it seems, our expensive PCs. For the non-squeamish who take a live-and-let-live attitude toward a colony of six-legged creatures inhabiting their cases, remember that they do cause problems beyond biting. The ants … [Read more...] about Man finds his PC infested with bugs of the six-legged kind
Steam tightens trading security amid 77,000 monthly account hijackings
Further Reading My brief life as a Diablo III hacking victim Account theft is a common and longstanding problem for all kinds of online gaming services, as I can personally attest after losing all of my Diablo III loot to a hacker a few years ago. But Valve says the problem is reaching epidemic proportions on Steam , with "around 77,000 accounts hijacked and pillaged each month." Since the service launched item-trading features back in 2011, Valve says the problem of account theft "has increased twenty-fold as the number one complaint from our users... What used to be a handful of hackers is now a highly effective, organized network, in the business of stealing and selling items." It's not hard to see why the problem is increasing. Items in games like Team Fortress 2 and Counter-Strike: GO can be worth a lot of real money on the secondary market, not to mention the inexplicably popular virtual trading cards floating around the Steam social network. As Valve … [Read more...] about Steam tightens trading security amid 77,000 monthly account hijackings
