As soon as Lars Ruiter steps out of his car, he is confronted by a Microsoft security guard, who is already seething with anger. Ruiter, a local councillor, has parked in the rain outside a half-finished Microsoft data center that rises out of the flat North Holland farmland. He wants to see the construction site. The guard, who recognizes Ruiter from a previous visit when he brought a TV crew here, says that’s not allowed. Within minutes, the argument has escalated, and the guard has his hand around Ruiter’s throat. Homegrown telecom gear maker Tejas Networks has named Anand Athreya as the CEO and MD designate of the company, and he will join the company effective April 3. “Mr. Atherya would be appointed as CEO and MD post all regulatory and shareholders approvals,” the company said in a late evening regulatory filing Wednesday. This is since the company’s present CEO and MD, Sanjay Nayak , has decided to seek voluntary retirement from the services to pursue other personal interests. “Mr. Nayak would step down from his role as CEO and MD by the next Annual General Meeting of the company. The Board of Directors has considered his request and accepted the same. The Board placed on record their appreciation for the contribution made by Mr. Sanjay Nayak, during his tenure as CEO and MD of the Company,” Tejas Networks said in the filing. Microsoft brought the AI-powered Copilot for Teams earlier this month to assist users in running more effective meetings. To further enhance the user experience while using the app, the company has now announced a new Teams app for Windows. It said that the new Microsoft Teams is faster, simpler, more flexible and smarter. “The new app is built on a foundation of speed, performance, flexibility, and intelligence — delivering up to two times faster performance while using 50% less memory so you can save time and collaborate more efficiently,” the company said in a blog post. Microsoft announced in 2021 that it will bring 3D avatars to Teams and in October last year, the company opened the Private Preview Mesh avatar. These avatars are aimed at helping people represent themselves in meetings at times when they don’t want to turn their webcam on. The company has now announced that Avatars for Microsoft Teams are beginning to roll out for public preview. “Starting today, you can represent yourself the way you want with customizable avatars and reactions,” the company said in a blog post. Why are Avatars needed Microsoft said that it found in a research that video usage is highly correlated to meeting participation, inclusiveness, and effectiveness. “However, only about 30% of participants meet with their video on. Avatars for Microsoft Teams offers an alternative to the current binary option of video or no video,” it noted. India ’s fixed communication services revenue is expected to touch $13.9 billion in 2027 growing at a compound annual growth rate ( CAGR ) of 6.4% from $10.2 billion in 2022 driven by the strong growth in the fixed broadband segment, data and analytics firm GlobalData .
