OpenAI says “AI classifier” tool can detect AI-written text

February 1, 2023 by www.techspot.com Leave a Comment

Why it matters: After all the chitchat and the growing contempt for text written by generative AIs like ChatGPT, OpenAI is promoting a new ML algorithm designed to identify such textual output. The results, however, are still pretty bad. ChatGPT and other algorithms capable of producing seemingly correct textual content have quickly become a growing concern for educators, schools and universities, so much so that there is now a market for anti-AI tools like GPTZero . Another such tool has now been released by OpenAI, the very same company that created ChatGPT and started the recent AI revolution. Like any other machine learning algorithm, OpenAI's new AI classifier has been trained on a data set of textual snippets to fulfill its task. Unlike ChatGPT, the AI classifier is designed to distinguish between text written by a human and text written by AIs "from a variety of providers." Needless to say, those providers include ChatGPT. OpenAI says that the classifier is "not … [Read more...] about OpenAI says “AI classifier” tool can detect AI-written text

OpenAI’s new tool says it can spot text written by AI

February 1, 2023 by www.techradar.com Leave a Comment

Audio player loading… OpenAI has announced (opens in new tab) a new tool that it says can tell the difference between text written by a human and that of an AI writer - some of the time. The Microsoft-backed company says the new classifier, as it is called, has been developed to combat the malicious use of AI content generators, such as its very own and very popular ChatGPT, in "running automated misinformation campaigns (opens in new tab) , … academic dishonesty, and positioning an AI chatbot as a human." So far, it claims that the classifier has a success rate of 26% in identifying AI-generated content, correctly labelling it as being 'likely AI-written', and a 9% false positive rate in mislabeling the work of humans as being artificially created. Insiders say Sony slashed PlayStation VR2 production; Sony says, “No we didn’t”

January 31, 2023 by www.techspot.com Leave a Comment

Rumor mill: Word on the street is that Sony's PS VR2 pre-orders were disappointing. As such, insiders say the company is allegedly cutting back production. The two million units it expected to sell in the first quarter of 2023 are now projected to take until March 2024 to move. However, Sony says these reports are false, and everything is on track. With Sony's PS VR2 only three weeks from release, Bloomberg reports that the company has cut shipments of the next-gen VR headset in half due to low pre-orders. The company previously estimated it would ship at least two million units in its launch quarter. However, anonymous sources say those sales are now projected at one million. Sony expects another 1.5 million units to ship between April this year and March 2024. Bloomberg reached out to Sony for official comment, but a spokesperson said, "the company does not discuss its product inventory." However, shortly after publishing the story, Sony told GamesIndustry.biz that it had not … [Read more...] about Insiders say Sony slashed PlayStation VR2 production; Sony says, “No we didn’t”

The Resident Evil 4 remake will drop a decisive feature

February 1, 2023 by www.techradar.com Leave a Comment

Audio player loading… With Resident Evil 4's remake less than a couple of months away, fans have been wondering just how faithful it'll be to the original game. In the case of one divisive mechanic, not so much. The Resident Evil 4 remake, launching for PS5 and Xbox Series X |S on March 24, is entirely ditching the quick time events of the original release. In an exclusive with Game Informer (opens in new tab) , Capcom confirmed that in their place will be more substantial gameplay elements such as side quests and new enemy types. These side quests will be scattered throughout the environment as collectible flyers, incentivizing exploration. They offer various objectives like killing certain enemies or solving various puzzles and riddles. What few side quests the original game had, such as shooting a set of blue medallions, are also set to make a return. New enemy types will be making their debut in Resident Evil 4 , too, one of which being a portly … [Read more...] about The Resident Evil 4 remake will drop a decisive feature

Apple Watch owners’ next must-have gadget is a sleep-tracking smart Oura Ring

February 2, 2023 by www.techradar.com Leave a Comment

Audio player loading… In a world in which you can get smart versions of almost anything, from speakers and watches to water bottles and running shoes, I find smart rings particularly fascinating. In some ways, they're the perfect wearable – unobtrusive, stylish and able to seamlessly blend with the rest of your outfit. However, they're far too small to pack a screen, so all the data it collects is only available in the corresponding app. Out of all the smart ring offerings available right now, the Oura Ring is the best-known and most adopted, topping our list of the best sleep trackers . The Oura Generation 3 is a solid wellness tracker geared towards monitoring sleep and stress rather than pure fitness, with seven temperature sensors monitoring your 'restorative time', an updated heart rate sensor, and a readiness score just like Garmin or Fitbit. The Oura Ring is a screenless wearable like most other smart rings, a chunky yet pretty ring designed to be worn on the … [Read more...] about Apple Watch owners’ next must-have gadget is a sleep-tracking smart Oura Ring

Use Drive Mirroring for Instant Backup in Windows 7

July 23, 2010 by www.howtogeek.com Leave a Comment

Even with the best backup solution, a hard drive crash means you’ll lose a few hours of work. By enabling drive mirroring in Windows 7, you’ll always have an up-to-date copy of your data. Windows 7’s mirroring — which is only available in Professional, Enterprise, and Ultimate editions — is a software implementation of RAID 1, which means that two or more disks are holding the exact same data. The files are constantly kept in sync, so that if one of the disks fails, you won’t lose any data. Note that mirroring is not technically a backup solution, because if you accidentally delete a file, it’s gone from both hard disks (though you may be able to recover the file ). As an additional caveat, having mirrored disks requires changing them to “dynamic disks,” which can only be read within modern versions of Windows (you may have problems working with a dynamic disk in other operating systems or in older versions of Windows). See this Wikipedia page for more information. … [Read more...] about Use Drive Mirroring for Instant Backup in Windows 7

Google may introduce Apple’s Continuity Camera rival with Android 14

February 3, 2023 by www.gadgetsnow.com Leave a Comment

Google is said to introduce another Apple -like feature. Apple introduced the interesting Continuity camera feature last year. The feature can turn the iPhone into a webcam for the Mac. Now it appears that tech giant Google is also working on a similar kind of feature. According to Android expert Mishaal Rahman, Google is planning to enable native support for using Android phones as webcams for PCs and Chromebooks. The company is working on rolling out the feature with Android 14 . "Using an Android phone as a webcam became really popular during the pandemic, but you've typically had to install a third-party app to do so. You may not have to do this in the future, though, as Google is adding support for turning Android devices into USB webcams!", tweeted Rahman. Rahmaan further revealed that he spotted the information in the Android Open Source Project repository. He noticed a service called 'DeviceAsWebcam'. This yet-to-launch feature is rumoured to … [Read more...] about Google may introduce Apple’s Continuity Camera rival with Android 14

Security researcher finds bug that may have allowed hackers to bypass Facebook’s 2FA

February 2, 2023 by www.gadgetsnow.com Leave a Comment

Meta created a centralised system to allow users to manage connected experiences like logging in across accounts on Facebook and Instagram . A security researcher has said a bug in this system, called Meta Accounts Center , may have allowed hackers to disable two-factor authentication (2FA) – a way that helps users to keep their social media accounts protected from unauthorised access. Gtm Mänôz, a security researcher from Nepal, said he reported a bug he found in the Meta Accounts Center in September last year. Bug in Meta Accounts Center Mänôz said that he found that Meta did not set up a limit to enter login code it sends via SMS as a part of the two-factor authentication process. As per the researcher, this bug would have allowed a hacker to bypass the authentication protections using brute force attacks. ChatGPT adds 100 million users in two months, making it the fastest-growing “app” ever

February 3, 2023 by www.techspot.com Leave a Comment

In brief: The recent rise in popularity of ChatGPT has been meteoric, to say the least. According to new analysis, the AI platform in January reached 100 million users following its launch on November 30, which makes it the fastest-growing consumer app in history, though the chatbot itself doesn't believe it should be classed as an app. According to analysis by Swiss bank UBS, the speed at which ChatGPT has added 100 million users makes it the fastest-growing consumer app in history— more than one million people were using the site within five days of its launch. Reuters notes that this puts it ahead of TikTok, which took nine months to reach 100 million users. Instagram, meanwhile, took two and half years to hit the same figure. You knew it was just a matter of time until we did this (extend the @MintMobile savings with @OpenAI , that is). pic.twitter.com/uf2jblpG2j — Ryan Reynolds (@VancityReynolds) January 10, 2023 However, when ZDNet asked ChatGPT if it … [Read more...] about ChatGPT adds 100 million users in two months, making it the fastest-growing “app” ever
