SHANGHAI (Reuters) - Tesla Inc has opened a tender process to build its Shanghai Gigafactory and at least one contractor has started buying materials, according to sources and documents reviewed by Reuters, the clearest indication that construction is imminent. Alibaba cloud revenue climbs 93 percent to $710M
Alibaba's cloud revenue has climbed 93 percent in its first quarter ended June 30, to hit US$710 million, fuelled by adoption of its higher value-added service as well as growth in paying customers. However, the business unit saw a US$74 million loss in adjusted EBITA margins, as the Chinese internet giant continued to make investments in its cloud footprint. At 2,191 feet tall, it will surpass the Shanghai Tower. The project builds on Shenzhen’s urban development boom. Chinese cities have some of the world’s tallest skyscrapers, including the 1,965-foot-tall Ping An Finance Centre in Shenzhen, the 1,739-foot-tall CTF Finance Centre in Guangzhou, and the 1,732-foot-tall China Zun tower in Beijing. On a Saturday morning in a three-story museum here, tourists admire Qian's faded green sofa set, the worn leather briefcase he carried for 4 decades, and a picture of him shaking hands with opera star Luciano Pavarotti. They file past a relic from a turning point in Qian's life—and in China's rise as a superpower: a framed ticket from his 1955 voyage from San Francisco, California, to Hong Kong in China aboard the SS President Cleveland. Once a professor at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California, he had been accused of having communist sympathies in the heat of the Red Scare and placed under virtual house arrest.
