A mother who mowed down a 10-year-old girl and left her unconscious in the middle of the road has been spared jail. Bobbie Tighe was crossing Redcar Road in Red House in Sunderland on her way home from school when she was hit by disqualified driver Joanne Beven, from Hartlepool. Bobbie's family have said they believe Beven has "got off lightly" after she was given a suspended jail term for the incident. A man is in hospital with serious injuries after a car accident in Northamptonshire. It came after an accident at 1.13am today (Wednesday) when a silver Mercedes car travelling eastbound on the A45 entered the sliproad of the junction with the A43 Lumbertubs Way. People are getting injured riding electric scooters — and most riders aren’t wearing helmets, new research says. The findings highlight the safety risks when infrastructure and regulation fail to keep up with a controversial and popular new transportation trend. Over the course of a year, at least 249 people visited two Southern California emergency rooms with broken bones, bumps, bruises, and head injuries — including brain bleeds — from scooter accidents, according to a paper published today in the journal JAMA Network Open. While most of the injuries were from riding the scooters, some pedestrians were injured when scooter riders crashed into them, and others tripped over scooters while walking. A Wisconsin babysitter who returned a deceased infant to his mother while allegedly pretending the two-month-old was sleeping has been charged with murder.Marissa Tietsort, 28, was charged on Friday with first-degree intentional homicide in the baby's 2018 death, according to the Wausau Daily Herald.The child's mother, whose identity has not been released, allegedly dropped off the two-month-old victim and his older brother off at Tietsort's home in Wausau, Wisc., in the afternoon on Oct. 18.While the children were in Tietsort's care, she sent their mother a text stating that a local news outlet had just published a story about her revealing she had been charged with child abuse stemming from an unrelated incident, according to a criminal complaint obtained by the Wausau Daily Herald.Tietsort warned the mother not to tell anyone she was watching her children, as she was not allowed to be in contact with minors. A Queens mother has been arraigned on assault, reckless endangerment and child endangerment charges after her young toddler twins were found seriously hurt at home late Wednesday, one of whom later died, police say. Tina Torabi, 30, didn't say anything to reporters as she was led out of the 111th Precinct station in Bayside Friday evening, but shook her head no when asked if she hurt her child. Her 1-year-old twins, Elaina and Kian, were found seriously hurt inside their Ashby Avenue home in Auburndale after the mother called 911 and said her daughter was unresponsive. Elaina died soon after at Flushing Hospital Medical Center, and Kian remains in serious condition at Cohen Children’s Medical Center.
