tiktok: Democratic senator urges Apple, Google to kick TikTok out of app stores

February 2, 2023 by www.gadgetsnow.com Leave a Comment

TikTok , owned by China's ByteDance, should be removed from app stores run by Apple Inc and Alphabet's Google because the short video social media app poses a risk to national security, Senator Michael Bennet , a Democrat on the intelligence committee, said in a letter dated. The app, which Congress has already banned from federal government devices, has come under increasing criticism because of concern that China's government could use it to harvest data on Americans or advance Chinese interests. "No company subject to CCP (Chinese Communist Party) dictates should have the power to accumulate such extensive data on the American people or curate content to nearly a third of our population," Bennet wrote in the letter to Alphabet Chief Executive Sundar Pichai and Apple CEO Tim Cook . Arlo Smart Security System (VMS3230) Review

May 20, 2015 by www.pcmag.com Leave a Comment

Installing a home surveillance system is easier than ever thanks to the proliferation of Wi-Fi cameras, but most of these cameras still require an AC power source. This may not be an issue for indoor applications where power outlets are usually plentiful, but for outdoor usage it puts limitations on where you can place your cameras. Enter the Arlo Security System VMS3230 ($349.99), a completely wire-free home surveillance camera system that uses a pair of palm-sized, battery-powered cameras and a base station to help you track motion in and around your home and view live and recorded video from your smartphone or PC. These neat-looking cameras are a cinch to install and can be placed just about anywhere, and they deliver sharp daytime and nighttime video. However, in order to conserve power they don't offer any audio capabilities, and you can't pan and zoom on the fly. Design and Features ($349.99 at Staples) (Opens in a new window) , which comes with two cameras, a base … [Read more...] about Arlo Smart Security System (VMS3230) Review

Google Fi hit by data breach following T-Mobile hack

February 1, 2023 by www.techradar.com Leave a Comment

Audio player loading… Customers of Google Fi have been notified via email of “suspicious activity” that may have seen some lower-risk data exposed. Somewhat ironically, Google Fi promises to be a “private and secure” phone plan that gives its subscribers access to unlimited data, end-to-end call encryption, VPN access, and more, for $50 per month (for one user). Maybe less secure, though, is its “primary network provider” which informed Google that a “third party system that contains a limited amount of Google Fi customer data” was at risk. The unidentified network provider is likely to be T-Mobile, given that it supports a large portion of the Google Fi network and also experienced a data breach around the same time. TechRadar Pro needs you! (opens in new tab) our survey (opens in new tab) and telling us your opinions and views about the tech industry in 2023.
