Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Wednesday he “can’t imagine” what families separated by a controversial American immigration policy are living through, bluntly criticizing the actions of President Donald Trump’s administration.. “What’s going on in the United States is wrong. I can’t imagine what families living through this are enduring,” Trudeau said to reporters on Wednesday morning. “This is not the way we do things in Canada.” Story Continued Below Trudeau joins a growing cohort of world leaders taking aim at a U.S. policy that has resulted in the separation of children from their families after being caught crossing the border illegally. Canadians smuggling shoes out of U.S., Trump suggests in stoking tariff fight
In the eyes of President Donald Trump, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is not only "weak," but he also leads a nation of shoe smugglers. Mr. Trump's latest volley in his critique of Canadian trade practices came during a speech delivered Tuesday to the National Federation of Independent Businesses. Apparently referencing an opinion piece by Canadian journalist Isabel Vincent published last week in the New York Post, Trump said: "There was a story two days ago in a major newspaper talking about people living in Canada, coming into the United States, and smuggling things back into Canada because the tariffs are so massive. Mr. Trump's remarks prompted amused commentary from Americans and Canadians on social media, with one person taking to twitter to ponder when the U.S. would be … [Read more...] about Canadians smuggling shoes out of U.S., Trump suggests in stoking tariff fight

Donald Trump Defends Tariffs: ‘We Can No Longer Be the Stupid Country’
President Donald Trump defended his decision to increase tariffs on Canada, calling the current NAFTA trade deal “disgraceful.” “We can no longer be the stupid country,” Trump said. “We want to be the smart country.”Trump commented on trade policy during his speech at the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB) 75th anniversary celebration in Washington, DC, on Tuesday. “Canada, they like to talk,” Trump said, likely referring to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Trump said that Canada produced energy and timber but that it was time for them to stop taking advantage of the United States on trade. “We’re treated horribly,” he said, citing Canada’s 275 percent tariff on dairy, which hurt America’s dairy farmers. Trump also pointed to a news article about Canadians smuggling in American goods. “The tariffs to get common items back into Canada are so high that they have to smuggle them … [Read more...] about Donald Trump Defends Tariffs: ‘We Can No Longer Be the Stupid Country’
