Not exactly Nigerian prince-worthy, but the latest scam involving snatching your phone number is still pretty inventive. The Redmond, Wash. Police are currently examining the evidence in numerous cases reported to them as theft of T-Mobile phone numbers, used subsequently for bank account identification. This is how it apparently works - the scammers gain access to your name, social security and phone, then using this info they ported the number to MetroPCS. Thus, while your current phone stops working, the thieves call your bank from your number, and ask for a confirmation number to be sent as if to reset a bank account password they've forgotten. With this ID code, they gain access to your bank account, and are able to gain access to the funds there.Long story short, people in the area have been complaining to the police about this since December, and one victim, Carrie Hartwig, was left with only $10 in their account. "They basically yeah stole my number - they had my phone cut off," … [Read more...] about Thieves get bank accounts access by stealing T-Mobile phone numbers

For the most part, phones sold by carriers are locked in a way that prevents their use on a competitor's network – that's how a carrier ensures that you stick with their service for the duration of your contract. The practice has been around for decades and is common among wireless carriers worldwide, U.S. service providers included. Unlocking a phone tied to a U.S. carrier, however, just got a whole lot easier as new rules regarding carrier-locked handsets went into effect on February 11, 2015. Long story short, you may now ask your service provider to unlock your phone. But there's fine print, of course, and you have to meet certain criteria before having your handset unshackled. Why would I want to unlock my device?Locked phones can only be used on the network of the carrier that locked them. Once unlocked, a phone (or even a cellular-enabled tablet) can connect to any carrier's frequency-compatible network, once provided with a working SIM card. This enables subscribers … [Read more...] about How to unlock a phone locked to Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, or T-Mobile
Debuting on the Android-powered myTouch 4G Slide and Samsung Exhibit 4G, T-Mobile is partnering with Cequint to provide customers with Name ID for a fee of $3.99 a month. Customers can try out the service for free over a 10-day trial as well. When a call comes into the T-Mobile phone, the number is scanned within a database of phone numbers validated by operators. The service then displays the name, city and state of the caller as well as the phone number. If the number is already stored in the contact list, it displays information related to that contact instead of the information supplied by Cequint. The service from Cequint saves all information from the call on the phone making it simple to add new contacts. The company is hoping that adoption rates will be high for the service, but Android owners already have a free option for call screening with Google Voice. T-Mobile is the first of four major carriers that will be rolling out the Caller ID service … [Read more...] about T-Mobile exclusively launches name-based Caller ID for smartphones
Check out our picks for the best T-Mobile phones to get the most out of T-Mobile’s 4G service. Number four U.S. mobile carrier T-Mobile is attempting to shake off the dust of the abandoned takeover effort from AT&T, announcing a revamped “Challenger Strategy” that is intended to make the carrier more competitive against the likes of Sprint, AT&T, and the top U.S. mobile operator, Verizon Wireless. Of course, being competitive in the mobile market these days means moving towards 4G LTE technology — and that’s exactly what T-Mobile says it’s going to do, announcing plans to begin deploying LTE services in 2013. Furthermore, T-Mobile is going to re-jigger its network, drastically cutting back services for its 2G/EDGE customers in order to boost its HSPA+ high-speed broadband offerings — and, in so doing, make its network more interoperable with AT&T. That, in turn, could pave the way toward T-Mobile eventually being able to offer … [Read more...] about T-Mobile LTE: How is that going to work?
