Career website Glassdoor today released its 11th annual Employees’ Choice Awards, a list of the 100 best companies to work for in the coming year. Zoom was crowned as the number one tech company to work for in 2019, and the second best company to work for, overall. Zoom beat out Facebook, which is having a tough year, to say the least. That said, Facebook has been named the top tech company five out of 11 times: in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2017, and 2018. Going back a few years, Airbnb was first for 2016, Google led for 2015, and Twitter won for 2014. Neither Airbnb nor Twitter made the list for 2018 nor for 2019. Google did, as did Apple — these are the only two tech companies to make the list all 11 years. But Google was #8 while Apple was all the way down at #71. Last year, Glassdoor expanded its list to the top 100, when 28 tech companies made the cut. There were 29 tech companies on this year’s U.S. list (ratings are based on a five-point scale, from 1.0 as very … [Read more...] about Glassdoor: Zoom dethrones Facebook as the best tech company to work for in the U.S.

Tesla likes to think of itself as a disruptive, Silicon Valley technology company. That’s far from accurate. Despite over-the-air software updates to its vehicles and a factory in the Bay Area, Tesla is fundamentally a carmaker. It is, however, the most techie of car companies, and that’s actually something of a major advantage now in Silicon Valley. Because, regrettably, the true tech companies are starting to look very, very bad. Facebook, now reeling from a devastating New York Times investigation into the social … [Read more...] about Tesla just had the worst year in its history, but now it’s starting to look like the best tech company in the world
Employees are without a doubt the single most important capital a company has, but how long can the big tech companies keep their employees? Turns out that some companies keep their workers longer, much longer than others, and the names might actually come as a surprise. Now, you might not be surprised to see average retention at IBM is 6.4 years, after all people working there are often employed on long term projects and are experts in fields that are not all that common. However, what’s surprising is that some of the biggest names in tech, known for their great working conditions actually retain employees a fairly short amount of time. Google for instance, a company that has won awards for being the best place to work on Earth multiple times, retains its employees just a 1.1 year, less than all other major tech companies save for one.Surprisingly yet again, Amazon is the company with the lowest employee retention of exactly one year. Microsoft in comparison keeps its workers for … [Read more...] about Here is how long tech companies retain their employees
