Samsung’s Gear VR is one of the most popular virtual reality headsets, but recently, its future has seemed uncertain. Samsung didn’t mention the mobile headset during this week’s Unpacked event, and it hasn’t significantly updated the hardware since 2017. Despite this, the company said that all four of its new Galaxy S10 phone models will work with the Gear VR, using an adapter that ships with the headset. The Gear VR doesn’t seem to be facing imminent extinction. In fact, it seems to be in near-stasis, which is frustrating if you’d like to see Samsung fix its many problems, but it might make the most practical sense. Samsung’s Gear VR is in an interesting spot in the VR universe. It’s not quite as powerful as the Oculus Rift or the HTC Vive. April 5, 2018 - Written By Justin Diaz Plex VR has opened up support for Gear VR headsets letting anyone who owns the Samsung-produced device take advantage of the best that Plex has to offer all in virtual reality. The newly added support joins the compatible Daydream headset platform that has been available since earlier this year, and in addition to the Gear VR headset, Plex VR is available for Oculus Rift users as well so if you own one of those you won’t be left out. Oculus Rift support makes sense, given that Oculus builds the user interface for the Gear VR.At the moment there is no support for headsets like the Vive or Vive Pro, or the Sony PlayStation VR, nor is there any mentioned plans to release such support for any of those headsets, but Plex does mention that support for VR platforms and its Plex VR app is here to stay, so there is always a chance that Plex will look to extend support for Plex VR even further at some point in the future.
