I've only just unpacked the Sigma D25, so I don't have a ton of hands-on time with it yet. The build quality, menu system and bundled custom version of Cura (a 3D slicing software) are all excellent. So far the instructions and documentation, at least in English, are thin, and the setup is nowhere near as plug-and-play as some of the simpler printers on this list. I'll update my impressions when I get more hands-on time with the D25 desktop 3D printer. … [Read more...] about Best 3D printers for 2021

Apple fails to overturn VirnetX patent verdict, could owe over $1.1 billion
A federal judge denied Apple Inc's bid to set aside or reduce a $502.8 million patent infringement verdict favoring VirnetX Holding Corp, and awarded interest and royalties that could boost Apple's total payout in two lawsuits above $1.1 billion. In a decision issued, U.S. District Judge Robert Schroeder in Tyler, Texas rejected Apple's request for a new trial and several other claims. These included that VirnetX's award should not exceed $113.7 million, and that jurors should have been told the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office had deemed VirnetX's claims "unpatentable." Jurors in October found that Apple infringed two VirnetX patents related to secure networks, known as virtual private networks, to which owners of various iPhones and iPads may connect. Schroeder also awarded royalties of 84 cents per unit for future infringements, mirroring the rate set by the jury. Apple had said future royalties should be zero, or else no more than 19 cents per unit. Apple and VirnetX did … [Read more...] about Apple fails to overturn VirnetX patent verdict, could owe over $1.1 billion
Xiaomi stock tumbles after being blacklisted in US
After Huawei and ZTE, the US government has now taken on the Chinese conglomerate Xiaomi, blacklisting it as a "Communist Chinese military company". Xiaomis stock nosedived more than 10 per cent in early Friday trading after the news broke. In a fresh list, the US Department of Defense has targeted Xiaomi, which means that the company is also vulnerable to the outgoing President Donald Trump's executive order that bans the US firms from investing in such companies. The move may force US companies and other investors to divest in Xiaomi this year. According to Counterpoint Research, Xiaomi was the third largest smartphone maker globally in the third quarter of 2020, and India is its biggest market. "The Department is determined to highlight and counter the People's Republic of China's (PRC) Military-Civil Fusion development strategy, which supports the modernisation goals of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) by ensuring its access to advanced technologies and expertise acquired and … [Read more...] about Xiaomi stock tumbles after being blacklisted in US

The report adds that the company is working on two models of 14 and 16-inch size options and both these models are said to offer a flat-edged design, similar to the iPhone 12. The two are said to come without an OLED Touch Bar and it is claimed that Apple will return to the physical function keys. Also, it appears Apple will incorporate the MagSafe charging connector design with the laptop. Apple is also claimed to power these laptops with its newly unveiled M1 chipset, which is expected.
