Working with web browsers, productivity tools, and other tasks can usually be better accomplished with higher resolutions, but what about games? Higher resolutions require an immense amount of graphics processing power, so what should you be aiming for when looking at a new display? Display resolutions One of the major factors to consider when choosing a new display is the resolution. 1080p is the most popular configuration used today, but 1440p and 4K are slowly acquiring market share. Here are the resolutions we'll be working with when selecting a new monitor (or TV if you wish to get into couch gaming): 1280 x 720 - HD / 720p. 1920 x 1080 - FHD (Full HD) / 1080p. 2560 x 1440 - QHD/WQHD (Quad HD) / 1440p. 3840 x 2160 - UHD (Ultra HD) / 4K 2160p. 7680×4320 - FUHD (Full Ultra HD) / 8K 4320p. Best gaming monitors The 4K resolution is considered the successor to 1080p. It doubles the horizontal and vertical resolution, so you can begin to understand just what's being asked of your … [Read more...] about 1080p vs. 1440p vs. 4K: Which resolution is best for gaming?

Asus has announced three new monitors at Computex 2018. These monitors include two for gamers and one aimed at the creative professional.Rather than just targeting PC users, Asus is going after console gamers its 4K CG32UQ gaming monitor.Specifically going after PS4 Pro and Xbox One X users, the Asus CG32UQ clocks in at 31.5-inches with a traditional 16:9 aspect ratio. If you were hyped up about the very first 4K, Nvidia G-Sync HDR gaming display from Acer, the Predator X27, then try not to get too deflated by this: the thing costs $1,999 (about £1,490, AU$2,660). The news comes via a pre-order listing on NewEgg, promising that the monitors will be ready to ship on June 1.That price is more than most high-end gaming PCs – full stop. However, the price is less than expected, given earlier leaks from European retailers of prices converted from Euros reaching nearly $3,000.Unfortunately, Newegg has yet to list the monitor in the UK or Australia. Either way, expect equally eye-watering prices in those regions. Now, at least there’s a relatively good reason why this monitor is so damn expensive. Simply put, on paper, this screen is better than literally any other gaming monitor. This monitor has a faster refresh rate than most 4K displays at 144Hz, and the 384 backlight zones behind the HDR technology work well in tandem with G-Sync … [Read more...] about The first 4K G-Sync HDR gaming monitor hits pre-order at a budget-busting price
MSI and SteelSeries are collaborating once again, and this time they have made a monitor that syncs up with other SteelSeries PC peripherals. This week, the companies launched the Optix MPG displays, which are a pair of 27-inch gaming monitors that feature some impressive specs. Optix MPG comes in two variations, the MPG27C and the MPG27CQ. Both are the same size with a curved VA 144Hz Adaptive Sync panel. The 27C has a 1080P resolution, however, while the 27CQ does 1440P. That VA technology ensures that the Optix MPG has a wide viewing angle, better color reproduction, and less flicker, but it may also mean more input lag. That’s a common drawback of VA LCDs, but MSI is promising a 1 millisecond response time. But the Optix MPG has more going on than its display. This is the first monitor to get SteelSeries GameSense integration. The monitor has five responsive RGB LED panels on the front. These can cycle through millions of colors, but they can also provide information … [Read more...] about MSI and SteelSeries launch Optix MPG curved gaming monitors
