Huawei ramps up R&D spending in mobile push
Chinese telecoms giant Huawei has increased its spending on research and development (R&D), and hired additional staff, in an attempt to stabilize its business during a very turbulent 2022. During the company’s earnings briefing in Shenzhen, earlier this week, the company’s rotating chairs, Meng Wanzhou, and Eric Xu, said the company’s goal for 2022 was “sustainable survival and development” as it sought to expand and “optimize” its business portfolio. Huawei’s portfolio now includes ICT infrastructure, smart devices, cloud, digital power and intelligent automotive services. "Solid" finances When it comes to finances, however, Wanzhou said the business is “solid, with strong resilience and flexibility”. Surviving a Zombie Apocalypse: Just Do the Math
This equation could spell your doom: (bN)(S/N)Z = bSZ. That is, if you ever found yourself in the midst of a zombie pandemic. That's because the calculation describes the rate of zombie transmission, from one walking dead individual to many, according to its creators, Robert J. Smith?, a mathematics professor at the University of Ottawa who spells his name with a "?" at the end, and his students. Smith's work has inspired other researchers to create zombie mathematical models, which will be published with Smith's work in the upcoming book, "Mathematical Modeling of Zombies" (University of Ottawa Press, 2014). Though of course done tongue-in-cheek, Smith's study demonstrates why zombies are the viruses of the monster world. Their likeness to viruses makes the creatures ideal subjects for theoretical epidemiological analyses, which can be used to capture the public's imagination as well as explore scientific principles, Smith said. With Citadel and White House Plumbers, the race for 2023’s best spy show is on
It's a good time to be a fan of the spy genre. Superhero, sci-fi, and high fantasy shows have dominated the television scene for a while now. And, even though some espionage-based TV series have made their way onto our screens during that time, fans of the genre have been feasting off morsels rather than full-blown meals. The arrival of three potentially big spy shows in the first half of 2023, though, is set to change that. Netflix , Prime Video , and HBO Max have come out swinging – or, in the latter pair's case, will eventually come out swinging – in the battle to secure the 'best spy show' of 2023. Fans of spycraft and thriller TV shows, then, will have plenty to enjoy, and debate about which series is best, over the next couple of months. So, what are these so-called top-tier shows that spy fans will want to, well, keep an eye on? First up is The Night Agent . Unless you've been locked in a dark room for the past week, you'll know that The Night Agent … [Read more...] about With Citadel and White House Plumbers, the race for 2023’s best spy show is on

Microsoft has patched a high-severity vulnerability in its Bing search engine, which allowed potential threat actors to not only alter search results, but also access people’s Office 365 data (opens in new tab) . Cybersecurity researchers from Wiz discovered the flaw in January 2023, identifying it as a misconfiguration in the Azure Active Directory (AAD) identity and access management service in Microsoft's Azure cloud platform. Asides from changing search engine results, the flaw could allow access to other people’s Office 365 data, such as Outlook emails , calendars, Teams messages, OneDrive files, and more. A common occurrence Some applications on Azure can use multi-tenant permission, and thus be accessible by any Azure user. That means developers need to set up a way to validate users and keep tabs on who gets to access what. According to The Verge, this is where many get it wrong, as misconfigurations in this respect are “a common occurrence.” Wiz says … [Read more...] about This mega Microsoft security flaw could let hackers change Bing results, access Outlook emails
