Chinese smartphone maker Oppo is in the news once again, with its unannounced Oppo R8207 making the rounds at TENAA. The device has a familiar rectangular shape and boasts a 5-inch TFT HD display, a 1.5GHz octa-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable storage, a 13MP main camera with LED flash, and a 5MP front camera. The device is just 0.26in (6.85mm) thick. Looking at the similarities in design and specs, it's easy to recognize the R807 as Oppo's answer to the Apple iPhone 6, or Samsung's upcoming A-series smartphones. If Oppo prices it right, and the company is no stranger to affordable price tags, it might have a successful product in its hands - even if not a particularly innovative one.In other Oppo news, the company is having a Black Friday sale in its online store, Oppo Style. The Oppo Find 7a with a 1080p screen and 2GB of RAM can be had for $499, bundled with a cover, screen protector, SD card, extra battery, and a $100 voucher towards another smartphone purchase. … [Read more...] about New Oppo R8207 makes the rounds at TENAA while the Oppo Find 7/7a go on a Black Friday sale

While Apple is known for many things–great design, simple user interface, general “walled-garden” tactics–offering deep discounts is not one of them. It takes years for the brand to drop prices on its products, even in the face of multiple refreshes. We’ve all just accepted the fact that Apple devices are synonymous with high prices. And that is why we don’t advise getting too excited about Apple’s Black Friday sale. The company is promoting its one day sale, but offering little information about the bargains. “You’ll discover amazing iPad, iPod, and Mac gifts for everyone on your list,” the teaser says. It’s nearly identical wording to last year’s ad, and if you remember the savings weren’t really worth mentioning. So if you are planning on hitting the sales come Friday, we don’t suggest lining up outside your local Apple Store or logging on at midnight. Your time is better spent elsewhere. That said, if … [Read more...] about Where to find the best Black Friday deals on all things Apple [UPDATE: Check out Apple’s leaked discounts]
Apple is getting into the spirit of holiday consumerism and just announced its own Black Friday sale, but don’t get in line just yet. Apple’s teaser didn’t include any specific items that would be discounted, instead only hinting that there will be “dozens of great iPad, iPod, and Mac gifts for everyone on your list.”If we’ve learned anything about Apple’s Black Friday sale, it’s to not get your hopes up too high. The company has a reputation of being somewhat stingy when it comes to the biggest shopping day of the year. Last year, Black Friday shoppers were treated to a $101 discount on the iMac and MacBook Pro and some modest bargains on iPods. Compare this to the 50 percent discounts you’ll find at most retailers, and you can guess why there won’t be many lines outside Apple Stores on Thursday night. And Apple doesn’t really need to cut prices to drive consumer interest. With or without Black Friday buzz, the iPad (and … [Read more...] about Apple teases Black Friday sales, but expect slim savings
As the United States gets ready for its upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, retail organizations are gearing up for an annual holiday of their own: Black Friday. This year, though, they face a difficult economic climate, and many consumers may be especially tight with their cash. Some retailers -- especially those that sell consumer electronics -- are expected to cut prices even deeper than usual.Apple has not traditionally ignored the Black Friday bonanza completely, though its retail sales are generally more conservative than those of other electronics sellers. Plans usually involve both its online store and brick-and-mortar retail stores. Typical discounts have been in the US$100 range for iMacs and notebooks and between around $10 and $30 for iPods.Could this year be different?Apple did not respond to a MacNewsWorld inquiry about the company's Black Friday sales plans. However, Barclays Capital analyst Ben Reitzes has reportedly predicted that Apple may be much more aggressive with its … [Read more...] about Apple on Black Friday: Blowout Bonanza or Business as Usual?
