After years of rumours, the mixed-reality headset of Apple , apparently named “Reality Pro,” is inching closer to reality. It is expected to launch in Spring, which means around March and June. But instead of showing it at WWDC , which happens in June every year, Apple could unveil its mixed reality headset ahead of its annual developer’s conference. A spring launch, and fall release for the “Reality Pro” In his weekly newsletter, Power On, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman says that he's being told that after much delays, Apple plans to launch the headset in spring, in line with what analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who also suggested that the mixed-reality headset would launch in spring. However, a launch in spring does not mean that it will be ready to buy immediately. The headset would make it to the customers later this year in the fall, says Gurman. The Cupertino giant has also finalised the name for the operating system of the headset, internally codenamed “Borealis.” … [Read more...] about Apple may launch its mixed reality headset “Reality Pro” in spring

January 23, 2023 by www.techspot.com Leave a Comment

Bottom line: Apple refreshed its MacBook Air last summer but prospective buyers may want to consider holding out for the next update if at all possible. According to Bloomberg's well-connected Mark Gurman, Apple's own M3 could arrive late this year or in early 2024. The chip will be based on a more advanced 3nm manufacturing process and will succeed the current M2, which Gurman described as a stopgap in Apple's silicon roadmap. Gurman added that Apple is already working on M3-powered versions of the MacBook Air and the iMac in addition to a MacBook Pro refresh set for 2025 complete with OLED screens and touch support. Gurman originally predicted the M3-equipped MacBook Air might arrive in 2023, perhaps earlier in the year. Last week, however, Apple refreshed its MacBook Pros with M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, and also added the M2 Pro to the Mac mini . Apple's M2 is built on an enhanced 5nm process, with the Max variant being a higher-powered version of the Pro affording more … [Read more...] about Apple’s next MacBook Air and iMac could ship with 3nm-based M3 chips from TSMC

Why You Should Be Using the New iPhone Safety Check Feature

January 17, 2023 by www.cnet.com Leave a Comment

In 2022, Apple announced Safety Check , a new iOS security feature designed to allow you to quickly see all the information (location, credentials and so on) you're sharing with someone else, like an ex-partner, and instantly revoke those permissions in the case of domestic abuse. Safety Check, however, can also play an important role for anyone with an iPhone who's interested in their own privacy and security. The feature not only protects you from abusers but also helps you keep an eye on all your downloaded applications, and revoke those permissions, like to your phone's camera or speaker, as well. You may not want some apps to have permission to certain information, and Safety Check is the quickest way to not only check this information but also stop the access completely. Here's how. It Might Be Time to Say Goodbye to Apple’s Cheapest iPhone

January 17, 2023 by www.cnet.com Leave a Comment

An iPhone that provides almost the same performance as the iPhone 14 for roughly half the price sounds like a great idea, right? Apparently not. If analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is to be believed, Apple may scrap the next version of its wallet-friendly iPhone SE, which was expected to arrive next year. "The supply chain has received instructions from Apple indicating that the production and shipment plans for the 2024 iPhone SE 4 have been canceled rather than delayed," Kuo wrote in a Medium post on Jan. 6. If Kuo's predictions are correct, only Apple knows the reasoning behind the cancellation. But research and media reports suggest there may be a very simple answer. More expensive iPhone models tend to be more popular, possibly leaving little incentive for Apple to continue pursuing cheaper phones like the iPhone SE. Apple didn't immediately respond to CNET's request for comment. The third-gen iPhone SE, which debuted in March, starts at $429 and is essentially an iPhone 8 … [Read more...] about It Might Be Time to Say Goodbye to Apple’s Cheapest iPhone
