May 19, 2022 by www.techradar.com Leave a Comment

Audio player loading… YouTube Music on Wear OS (opens in new tab) is finally able to stream music over LTE and Wi-Fi. Previously, you had to download an entire playlist to your smartwatch in order to listen to music. In a recent community post (opens in new tab) , Google explained that users will now have access to over 80 million songs and thousands of playlists on the YouTube Music platform. As part of the update, the app now comes with Smart Downloads, which refreshes downloaded songs every time your device connects to Wi-Fi. This way, your music isn’t interrupted as it switches connections. A new YouTube Music tile will be added to Wear OS for quick access to recent playlists or the browsing page. On top of that, the revamped software will offer tailored-made playlists according to your history. This all sounds like great news and are good additions to Wear OS, but there is a pretty big caveat attached. According to Google, you must be a … [Read more...] about YouTube Music app finally lets you stream music on Wear OS – but limits iOS in one key way

Audio player loading… Four months since Dark Souls’ PC servers were taken offline, publisher Bandai Namco and developer FromSoftware are yet to announce when they’ll return. The Dark Souls, Dark Souls 2, and Dark Souls 3 multiplayer servers were suspended (opens in new tab) on January 23, shortly after community members discovered (opens in new tab) a serious security exploit. Through accessing the game’s multiplayer, unscrupulous players could run commands through your computer without permission, opening the door to hackers taking control of your PC. Bandai Namco reinstated Dark Souls’ multiplayer servers for consoles on February 9, but kept the PC servers offline while it “set up proper testing environments”. It said the PC servers would not go live again until after the release of Elden Ring , and that it had extended its investigation to ensure its latest title didn’t suffer from the security issue. That was the last official update the publisher has … [Read more...] about As Elden Ring booms, Dark Souls’ servers are still broken

Lawsuit: Musk manipulated Twitter stock price in attempt to renegotiate sale

May 26, 2022 by arstechnica.com Leave a Comment

Elon Musk was sued by a Twitter investor who alleges that he broke the law in a scheme to drive down Twitter's stock price. The lawsuit was filed Wednesday against Musk and Twitter in US District Court for the Northern District of California. It recounts much of Musk's behavior since he began investing in Twitter and since he agreed to buy the company for $44 billion. The lawsuit noted that "Tesla's stock is worth much less now than when Musk agreed to buy Twitter" as "Tesla's shares have declined by over 37 percent since the announcement of the Buyout." Musk, the CEO of Tesla, "pledged his Tesla stock as collateral for a $12.5 billion loan to finance the buyout of Twitter" and is thus "at risk of a margin call or a requirement to put up more cash," it says. "Musk quickly acted to attempt to mitigate these personal risks to himself by engaging in unlawful conduct that moved the price of Twitter's stock down," the complaint says. "Musk proceeded to make statements, send tweets, … [Read more...] about Lawsuit: Musk manipulated Twitter stock price in attempt to renegotiate sale

apple: US bill seeks to ban Google, Apple from hosting apps that accept China’s digital Yuan

May 27, 2022 by www.gadgetsnow.com Leave a Comment

WASHINGTON: Republican senators want to bar US app stores including Apple and Google from hosting apps that allow payments to be made with China 's digital currency, amid fears the payment system could allow Beijing to spy on Americans. The bill states that companies that own or control app stores "shall not carry or support any app in [their] app store(s) within the United States that supports or enables transactions in e-CNY." It is sponsored by Senators Tom Cotton, Marco Rubio and Mike Braun. According to Cotton's office, digital yuan could provide the Chinese government with "real-time visibility into all transactions on the network, posing privacy and security concerns for American persons who join this network." The Center for a New American Security, a Washington, D.C.-based think tank, said in a January 2021 report that China's digital currency and electronic payments system was "likely to be a boon for CCP surveillance in the economy and for … [Read more...] about apple: US bill seeks to ban Google, Apple from hosting apps that accept China’s digital Yuan

Amazon is still struggling to make drone deliveries work

April 11, 2022 by www.theverge.com Leave a Comment

A report from Bloomberg details the obstacles hampering Amazon’s efforts to get its delivery drone program off the ground, citing a high employee turnover rate and potential safety risks. According to Bloomberg , there were five crashes over the course of a four-month period at the company’s testing site in Pendleton, Oregon. A crash in May took place after a drone lost its propeller, but Bloomberg says Amazon cleaned up the wreckage before the Federal Aviation Administration could investigate. Amazon spokesperson Av Zammit disputed this, saying that Amazon followed orders it received from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) to document the event and move the drone. The following month, a drone’s motor shut off as it switched from an upward flight path to flying straight ahead. Two safety features — one that’s supposed to land the drone in this type of situation and another that stabilizes the drone — both failed. As a result, the drone flipped upside down and … [Read more...] about Amazon is still struggling to make drone deliveries work

GOP senators want to ban China’s digital currency from US apps and app stores

May 27, 2022 by arstechnica.com Leave a Comment

Three Republican senators are proposing a law to prohibit app stores from carrying apps that accept payments using China's digital currency. The "Defending Americans from Authoritarian Digital Currencies Act" would prohibit app stores in the US from carrying or supporting any app "that supports or enables transactions in e-CNY," also known as the digital yuan or digital renminbi. The app stores would also be prohibited from supporting or enabling digital yuan transactions. The bill defines an app store broadly as "a publicly available website, software application, or other electronic service that distributes applications from third-party developers to users of a computer, a mobile device, or any other general purpose computing device." The bill was proposed by Sens. Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas), Mike Braun (R-Indiana), and Marco Rubio (R-Florida). "The Chinese Communist Party will use its digital currency to control and spy on anyone who uses it. We can't give China that chance—the … [Read more...] about GOP senators want to ban China’s digital currency from US apps and app stores

Biden’s DHS Using Border Wall Funds to Conduct ‘Environmental Planning’

May 27, 2022 by www.breitbart.com Leave a Comment

President Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is spending border wall funds, previously allocated by Congress to construct a wall along the United States-Mexico border, on addressing “life, safety, [and] environmental,” issues. In July 2021, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced the administration’s plans to spend American taxpayer money on a host of issues, including environmental restoration, rather than expanding on the border’s existing wall constructed during the Trump administration. On Friday, Mayorkas detailed plans to close some of the border wall’s gaps that have remained since Biden halted all construction of border wall in late January 2021. As part of that effort, Mayorkas said in a news release that DHS is moving “forward with projects in the San Diego, El Centro, Yuma, El Paso, and Rio Grande Valley Sectors to address life, safety, environmental, or other remediation requirements in accordance with [DHS’s] plan for the use of border barrier … [Read more...] about Biden’s DHS Using Border Wall Funds to Conduct ‘Environmental Planning’
