Update 1: 2015/12/10 7:40pm PST The watch is back in stock at the same discounted price. The SmartWatch 3 was never the most distinguished wristwatch. James Bond may carry around an Xperia phone, but not even Sony can get him to travel the world with so much plastic wrapped around his wrist. But the SmartWatch 3 is still, in many ways, one of the best Android Wear devices. It's intended for more rugged use than most of the competition, and the built-in GPS is a feature that high-end alternatives like the Huawei Watch and LG Watch Urbane lack. Today you can get the SmartWatch 3 for only $99.99 from Verizon Wireless, no hoops required. The carrier calls this a $30 savings, but it's $60 less than what Amazon wants and $150 less than Google. For folks who aren't stuck on metal or leather, this may just be the watch to get and the time to do so. Update 1: 2015/12/10 7:40pm PST The watch is back in stock at the same discounted price. Well, we've got you covered. As the links to the OTA ZIP files become available, we will post them here. To flash these, you'll need to have ADB installed and have the Google USB drivers from the Android SDK. You'll reboot your watch into recovery mode, then select "Install Update From ADB." You can then run "adb sideload filename.zip" from a command prompt. A Note About Flashing You can only sideload an OTA update manually if you can actually connect your watch to a computer via USB, and even then, you may not be able to. Android Wear's stock recovery seems really finicky when it comes to working correctly with ADB sideloading. Moto 360 owners are most … [Read more...] about [Update: Moto 360] Android Wear 5.1 OTA Roundup

So let me just throw it out there now: judging LG's new Watch Urbane from a value perspective is sort of completely silly. When it comes to value, I don't think any Android Wear watch has especially great appeal - after all, you're paying as much or more for one than you would a relatively inexpensive smartphone, a smartphone that does many, many more things. But the Watch Urbane has even less value appeal than most Wear devices (not that this is at all fatal to its success as a product). If you really care about value, the Sony SmartWatch 3 with its Wi-Fi, GPS, and NFC are right here for $100 less than the Watch Urbane (if not less than that if you get it on sale). That watch does more, it displays text more readably (both because of display size and … [Read more...] about LG Watch Urbane Review: $350 Buys You The Nicest Android Wear Watch Yet, If That’s Something You Want
