Historic Supreme Court Decisions Loom on Abortion, Guns, Religion

June 23, 2022 by www.breitbart.com Leave a Comment

WASHINGTON, DC – The Supreme Court is expected in the next seven days to hand down five major decisions, three of which will be huge, and potentially material for the history books –on abortion, the Second Amendment, and religious liberty. The Supreme Court’s term begins the first Monday of October, and officially lasts until the date of the next term’s October start date. But the court’s term as a public matter usually ends in the final week of June, which is to say next week. This year is unusual in the number of extremely consequential cases it has. This week the court held in Carson v. Makin that Maine violated the First Amendment’s Free Exercise Clause by excluding Christian school choice from a school aid program. But with Carson decided, fully five of the court’s 13 remaining cases are also major cases. One is Biden v. Texas , about President Joe Biden’s attempt to shut down one of former President Donald Trump’s signature policies, the Migrant Protection Protocols … [Read more...] about Historic Supreme Court Decisions Loom on Abortion, Guns, Religion

DOJ Vows to Fight for Abortion: We Will ‘Use Every Tool at our Disposal’

June 24, 2022 by www.breitbart.com Leave a Comment

Attorney General Merrick Garland vowed in a statement released on Friday that President Biden’s Department of Justice would use “every tool at our disposal” to fight for abortion. In a 5-4 decision the Supreme Court ruled Friday that the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision is no longer the law of the land, as abortion is not protected by the U.S. Constitution. As a result, the decision will now rest with each individual state — federalism at work. Three of the five justices who overturned the landmark decision were appointed by former President Donald Trump: Justices Brett Kavanaugh, Neil Gorsuch, and Amy Coney Barrett. However, Biden’s DOJ “ strongly disagrees ” with the Court’s decision, according to Garland. “The Justice Department strongly disagrees with the Court’s decision. This decision deals a devastating blow to reproductive freedom in the United States. It will have an immediate and irreversible impact on the lives of people across the country,” Garland wrote, asserting … [Read more...] about DOJ Vows to Fight for Abortion: We Will ‘Use Every Tool at our Disposal’

Planned Parenthood Texas Ceases Abortions

Two of the primary providers in Texas ceased performing abortions on Friday after the Attorney General warned they could be prosecuted immediately. “Some prosecutors may choose to immediately pursue criminal prosecutions based on violations of Texas abortion prohibitions predating Roe that were never repealed by the Texas Legislature,” AG Ken Paxton said in a written opinion issued following the court’s ruling. “Although these statutes were unenforceable while Roe was on the books, they are still Texas law,” Paxton wrote. “Under these pre- Roe statutes, abortion providers could be criminally liable for providing abortions starting today.” While the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade triggered a 2021 Texas law banning nearly all abortions after a 30-day waiting period, Paxton’s statement caused abortion clinics to cease operations Friday. Pro-Abortion Protesters Chant ‘F*ck Joe Biden,’ ‘Youngkin’ in Virginia

June 25, 2022 by www.breitbart.com Leave a Comment

A group of pro-abortion protesters was filmed apparently chanting, “Fuck Joe Biden” and “Fuck Glenn Youngkin,” in Richmond, Virginia, Friday evening. The demonstrators gathered to protest the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overruled Roe v. Wade . Despite President Joe Biden’s governing agenda being one of the most progressive in the history of the nation — including supporting pro-abortion policies and calling it a “fundamental right” on Friday — left-wing protesters appear to not be satisfied with the president as Roe was overturned during his administration. 8 Shocking Facts About New York’s Radical New Abortion Law

January 24, 2019 by www.breitbart.com Leave a Comment

The New York State legislature has put in place one of the most radical abortion laws in the United States following a vote in both chambers on Tuesday. The law is meant to put forth the “fundamental right” to abortion and end protections from babies in the womb up to birth. Lifesite News reported : The state Senate voted 38-24 in favor of the so-called “ Reproductive Health Act ” Tuesday evening, the Albany Times-Union reports , a bill that has repeatedly cleared the state Assembly in years past but been blocked by the formerly-Republican Senate. Following the Senate vote, the Assembly passed it 92-47. “We have a president who’s made it very, very clear that he wants to overturn Roe v. Wade,” Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins declared before the vote. “Today, here in New York, we are saying no […] and we’re not just saying no. We’re saying that here in New York, women’s health matters. We’re saying here in New York, women’s lives matter. Republican U.S. Senate candidate and former Missouri Governor Eric Greitens spoke to host Matthew Boyle on Sirius XM’s Breitbart News Saturday and emphasized that former President Donald J. Trump was responsible for the landmark Supreme Court ruling in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health case,  which overturned the long-standing 1973 Roe v. Wade decision. “Yesterday’s Supreme Court decision would not have been possible without President Trump,” Greitens pointed out. “He nominated conservative judges who respect the Constitution; he’s the one who took out Hillary Clinton, and he did it with no help from the RINO establishment,” the America First Senate candidate added. US tech industry frets about handing data to states prosecuting abortion

June 25, 2022 by www.gadgetsnow.com Leave a Comment

The technology industry is bracing for the uncomfortable possibility of having to hand over pregnancy-related data to law enforcement, in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court's decision on Friday to overturn the Roe v. Wade precedent that for decades guaranteed a woman's constitutional right to an abortion . As state laws limiting abortion kick in after the ruling, technology trade representatives told Reuters they fear police will obtain warrants for customers' search history, geolocation and other information indicating plans to terminate a pregnancy. Prosecutors could access the same via a subpoena, too. The concern reflects how the data collection practices of companies like Alphabet Inc's Google , Facebook parent Meta Platforms Inc and Amazon .com Inc have the potential to incriminate abortion-seekers for state laws that many in Silicon Valley oppose. "It is very likely that there's going to be requests made to those tech companies for information … [Read more...] about US tech industry frets about handing data to states prosecuting abortion

Stacey Abrams: Suspend Filibuster for Abortion Rights, Voting Rights

June 26, 2022 by www.breitbart.com Leave a Comment

Democratic Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” that Democrats should suspend the filibuster to pass abortion access nationally. Anchor Jake Tapper said, “Do you think the Senate should eliminate the filibuster to codify Roe versus Wade into law? Would you support that?” Abrams said, “I would support lifting it for Roe v. Wade . I would support lifting it for voting rights. These are constitutional issues. I believe, and I’ve said this very consistently, that when we are talking about fundamental protections that should be accorded to every citizen in our country, then the filibuster is wrong. And we should suspend the filibuster with regards to voting rights, and we should suspend the filibuster with regards to making certain we can protect the constitutional right to privacy and the ability of women to make choices for themselves and their bodies.” Tapper asked, “Do you think this ruling might help you defeat Governor … [Read more...] about Stacey Abrams: Suspend Filibuster for Abortion Rights, Voting Rights

North Dakota’s Sole Abortion Clinic Raises over $500K for Move

June 26, 2022 by www.breitbart.com Leave a Comment

An abortion clinic in North Dakota raised huge amounts of money in order to relocate after the Supreme Court overruled Roe v. Wade , and its move will leave the state without an abortion clinic. Fargo’s Red River Women’s Clinic (RRWC) created an online fundraiser to help its planned relocation effort to Moorhead, Minnesota, Business Insider reported Sunday. So far, the GoFundMe page has raised $581,341 of its $1,000,000 goal, and said the RRWC had been the state’s only abortion clinic for more than 20 years. “As a state with a trigger-ban in place, North Dakota would ban abortion in 30 days if Roe v Wade is overturned,” the page read. Per the Insider report, Moorhead, Minnesota, is located a few miles from the Red River area. Abortion is still legal in Minnesota, according to the Associated Press (AP). On Friday, the Supreme Court overruled Roe v. Wade , and held in the Dobbs case that the Constitution did not provide a right to abortion, returning the issue … [Read more...] about North Dakota’s Sole Abortion Clinic Raises over $500K for Move
