Minnesota Bishop Robert Barron Slams ‘Barbaric’ Abortion Law

February 3, 2023 by www.breitbart.com Leave a Comment

ROME — Bishop Robert Barron of Winona-Rochester has blasted a new Minnesota abortion law as “morally outrageous” and “the worst kind of barbarism.” In a video posted on social media, Bishop Barron described the bill signed this week by Democrat Gov. Tim Walz as “the most radical abortion law in the country” while calling on Americans to “stand against this barbarism.” Friends, there is a morally outrageous bill that has now been signed into law by @GovTimWalz . This bill is the most radical abortion law in the country. We must continue to stand against this barbarism. Pray for the conversion of hearts and minds. pic.twitter.com/9A2CI3Xq5w — Bishop Robert Barron (@BishopBarron) February 1, 2023 The law, whose full title is the Protect Reproductive Options (PRO) Act, establishes abortion up to birth for any reason as “a fundamental right” in Minnesota. “Every individual who becomes pregnant has a fundamental right to continue the pregnancy and give birth, or … [Read more...] about Minnesota Bishop Robert Barron Slams ‘Barbaric’ Abortion Law

President Boris Johnson? NYC-Born Ex-UK PM Hints at White House Bid

February 3, 2023 by www.breitbart.com Leave a Comment

The New York City-born former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson has said that he would not rule out a potential bid for the White House. Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson, who served as British Prime Minister from 2019 to 2022 before being forced to resign over a series scandals including being fined for hosting a series of parties in Downing Street which violated the very same draconian lockdown measures his own government imposed upon the public during the Chinese coronavirus crisis, is apparently looking for a second act in his political career. While Westminster watchers have long speculated that such a second act would come in the form of an attempt to recapture his previous position as prime minister, Mr Johsnon threw a spanner in the works this week by telling the Spectator magazine: “I don’t rule it out,” in reference to a potential presidential run. The former British prime minister was born in New York City in 1964 while his father, Stanley … [Read more...] about President Boris Johnson? NYC-Born Ex-UK PM Hints at White House Bid

Formula 1 just can't seem to keep American car companies away. Last month, we were stunned by the news that Cadillac wants to enter F1 with the Andretti team , which is seeking an entry into the sport. While that bid remains in doubt , here's one that isn't: Today, the Ford Motor Company revealed it will be back in F1 starting in 2026, when the new engine rules come into effect . "This is the start of a thrilling new chapter in Ford's motorsports story that began when my great-grandfather won a race that helped launch our company," said Bill Ford, executive chair of Ford. "Ford is returning to the pinnacle of the sport, bringing Ford’s long tradition of innovation, sustainability, and electrification to one of the world’s most visible stages.” Ford's first foray into F1 began in 1967 when Colin Chapman, the head of Lotus, persuaded Ford to pay for the development of a new racing engine that would be a stressed part of the F1 chassis. (In other words, it was a structural … [Read more...] about Ford will return to F1 in 2026 as an engine builder

HBO Max, Paramount Plus join Netflix in frustrating 2023 TV show cancellation spree

February 3, 2023 by www.techradar.com Leave a Comment

Audio player loading… Update: Paramount has responded to TechRadar's request for comment about its Paramount Plus and Showtime merger. In the US, Paramount Plus ' premium tier will be rebranded to "Paramount Plus with Showtime". The merger will take place later this year – Paramount declined to provide an exact date – and will give customers "a more compelling offering" of content. Paramount says the move "is a natural next step" in its revamped strategy to become a singular, multiplatform, IP-driven company. As for UK and Australian audiences, Paramount confirmed no changes will be made to its current Paramount Plus subscription plans. Showtime is already integrated into Paramount Plus (as an extra channel) in non-US territories. On the topic of show cancellations and removals from its streaming platform, Paramount president and CEO Chris McCarthy explained – in an employee memo seen by TechRadar – the reasons behind these decisions. "As a part of Paramount … [Read more...] about HBO Max, Paramount Plus join Netflix in frustrating 2023 TV show cancellation spree

Tech firms would pay $89B in taxes if offshore gov’t debt came home

March 13, 2014 by arstechnica.com Leave a Comment

According to a new report , four major American tech firms hold $163 billion in United States government debt overseas for tax reasons. That means that American taxpayers are effectively paying interest toward a corporate cash stash held abroad that likely will not return to the US anytime soon. Further Reading Silicon Valley fights to keep its Dutch Sandwich and Double Irish loopholes If Apple, Microsoft, Google, and Cisco were to repatriate this money to the US, and if it were taxed at the current corporate rate of 35 percent, “it would produce a $89 billion windfall for the US Treasury—equivalent to 17 percent of America’s projected $514 billion budget deficit this year,” according to the report, published Wednesday by the UK's Bureau of Investigative Journalism (BIJ). “The amount invested by Apple, Microsoft, Google, and Cisco is so large they would collectively be the 14th biggest overseas purchaser of Treasury securities, above Singapore and Norway.” That … [Read more...] about Tech firms would pay $89B in taxes if offshore gov’t debt came home

I watched Rian Johnson’s Poker Face on Peacock – and it’s nothing like Knives Out

February 1, 2023 by www.techradar.com Leave a Comment

Audio player loading… It's no secret that Peacock is the black sheep of the streaming family. While the likes of Netflix and Disney Plus possess extensive and excellent back catalogs, Peacock's lack of top-tier originals has seen audiences shun it in favor of its more popular cousins. Now, though, NBC Universal's streamer has a truly fantastic TV show to rival its peers: Poker Face . The brainchild of Rian Johnson ( Knives Out , Star Wars ), Poker Face is an sensationally good comedy detective series that'll do more than fill the Knives Out -shaped void in your life . In fact, I'd go as far to say it's the best Peacock show of all-time – and one that'll convince you to finally sign up for the service. The truth is out there Poker Face stars Natasha Lyonne ( Russian Doll ) as Charlie Cale, a drifter who possesses the seemingly supernatural ability to detect lies. Or, in Cale's catchphrase-like terms, when a person "bullshits" her. When … [Read more...] about I watched Rian Johnson’s Poker Face on Peacock – and it’s nothing like Knives Out

Heard of the Ninja Speedi?

February 2, 2023 by www.techradar.com Leave a Comment

Audio player loading… Today, I attended the unveiling of the Ninja Speedi at the brand's (very cool) new office in London. It’s due to launch in the UK next week but for our US readers, it’s already available for you to buy. I’m writing this all down for you to read because this is a revolutionary home appliance. One that can cook you a meal in 15 minutes. You can use a variety of ingredients; from meats and cheeses to veg and rice, and put them all into the same pot. It’s the first small appliance to launch after the success of some of the best air fryers I’ve ever seen. The Ninja Speedi is sure to disrupt our countertop and the way we do dinner. But what’s it really capable of? When I saw the Ninja Speedi in action, pasta, broccoli and crème fraiche was added into the pot. Water was then added. At this point I didn’t know what to expect. The Cook & Crisp tray was then added and four crumb coated chicken breasts were placed on top. The lid was put down, some … [Read more...] about Heard of the Ninja Speedi?

ChatGPT already feared to be behind multiple cyberattacks

February 2, 2023 by www.techradar.com Leave a Comment

Audio player loading… IT leaders are fearful that ChatGPT, the instantly famous AI-powered chatbot, is already being used by state-sponsored threat actors when crafting cyberattacks. A report from BlackBerry, which polled 500 IT decision-makers in the UK on their views of the revolutionary tech, found over three-quarters (76%) believe foreign states are already using ChatGPT in their cyber-warfare campaigns against other nations. Almost half (48%) believe 2023 is the year when we’ll be able to credit the technology with a successful cyberattack. While this might sound like a standard case of rage against the machine, it’s far from it. Most respondents (60%) still see the tech as being put to use for “good” purposes, but at the same time 72% worry about potential misuse. Improved phishing emails They’re mostly fearful of cybercriminals using the AI-powered chatbot to craft believable phishing emails (57%), improve the sophistication of their attacks (51%) and … [Read more...] about ChatGPT already feared to be behind multiple cyberattacks

The Vivo X90 Pro is going global to challenge the Samsung Galaxy S23

February 3, 2023 by www.techradar.com Leave a Comment

Audio player loading… Following a launch in China late last year , the Vivo X90 Pro is now setting sail and headed for the UK, among other regions in Europe and Asia. While we don’t have an exact release date yet, this global announcement suggests the phone is coming very soon, and we do know pretty much everything else about it. Highlights of the Vivo X90 Pro include a 50MP f/1.75 1-inch camera sensor, which is a larger size than you’ll find on most phones and may give it a photographic edge. That camera packs optical image stabilization (OIS), and it’s joined by a 50MP f/1.6 portrait camera with 2x optical zoom and OIS, and a 12MP f/2.0 ultrawide. There’s also a 32MP camera on the front and the cameras are all support by an ongoing collaboration with optics specialists Zeiss, along with the company’s own V2 imaging chip; collectively enhancing the phone’s night photography and astrophotography skills, among other things. Away from the cameras, the Vivo X90 Pro … [Read more...] about The Vivo X90 Pro is going global to challenge the Samsung Galaxy S23
