Tim Walz as “the most radical abortion law in the country” while calling on Americans to “stand against this barbarism.” Friends, there is a morally outrageous bill that has now been signed into law by @GovTimWalz . No NATO for Sweden Until Qur’an Burning is Banned: Ankara
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has stated that unless Sweden bans the burning of the Islamic Qur’an, he will not agree to the country’s bid for membership in the NATO military alliance. President Erdogan stated this week that Turkey will refuse to give a green light for Swedish membership in NATO as long as it remains legal for people to burn copies of the Islamic holy book following a recent burning of the Qur’an last month. “As long as you allow my holy book, the Qur’an, to be burned and torn apart, we will not say yes to your entry into NATO. Our view of Finland is positive, but not of Sweden,” Erdogan said, broadcaster SVT reports . Finnish police blocked a Qur’an burning just this week. UK Govt Looks to Ban Misogyny on Social Media with ‘Online Safety’ Law
The British government is reportedly considering a measure to force social media companies to ban misogyny online as a part of the pending Online Safety Bill. The long-awaited legislation to introduce even more restrictions on online speech in Britain could be amended to allow Britain’s broadcasting regulator to fine online firms up to ten per cent of their global revenue should they fail to properly police allegedly misogynistic content on their sites. The measure, which is being pushed by a group of Conservative (Tory) Party peers, including former David Cameron aide Baroness Bertin, Baroness Morgan, and Baroness Newlove, has also drawn support from the leftist Labour Party, The Telegraph reported . While Culture Secretary Michelle Donelan is said to be of the opinion that the misogyny amendment is unnecessary, as she believes the current form of the bill already empowers the government to censor such content, should Labour follow through on backing the Tory peers’ … [Read more...] about UK Govt Looks to Ban Misogyny on Social Media with ‘Online Safety’ Law
Miller: Banning Chinese Land Purchases in U.S. ‘Should Be Bipartisan’
Placing a moratorium on foreign land purchases and Chinese companies’ efforts to buy up U.S. farmland “should be bipartisan,” said Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL), following the discovery of a now-destroyed Chinese spy balloon in American airspace. “We are on a dangerous path. We’ve known for a long time that we have been allowing ourselves to be too economically dependent on China,” Miller said during an interview with Breitbart News Saturday host and Washington, D.C. Bureau Chief Matthew Boyle. “Joe Biden is just focusing on Americans as being domestic terrorists instead of focusing on our true adversaries. I can’t even imagine what will happen if we lose our self-sufficiency in farming, and we need to take this threat very seriously,” she continued. LISTEN: Breitbart News broke the news on Friday that Miller will reintroduce a bill on Monday entitled “Save American Farms from Adversaries Act.” The legislation is meant to protect U.S. food security, help … [Read more...] about Miller: Banning Chinese Land Purchases in U.S. ‘Should Be Bipartisan’
tiktok: TikTok will allow users to reset the ‘For You’ feed, bring ‘strikes’ for policy violators
TikTok is reportedly working on a way for users to reset their ‘For You’ page, a key element in the app’s user experience. According to a report in The Verge, quoting company spokesperson Jamie Favazza, the short video platform is testing the new ‘Refresh’ button that will reset users’ For You feed. The For You feed is TikTok’s main section which shows users new content. Over time, this feed starts showing custom recommendations based on the user’s previous activity. However, there may be instances where the algorithm doesn’t show enough relevant content. In that case, the Refresh option can be used to undo the existing custom feed and let you start from scratch. cheating case rocked by photos of illicit joystick modification
Over the years, King of Kong star Billy Mitchell has seen his world-record Donkey Kong scores stripped , partially reinstated , and endlessly litigated , both in actual court and the court of public opinion . Through it all, Mitchell has insisted that every one of his records was set on unmodified Donkey Kong arcade hardware, despite some convincing technical evidence to the contrary . Now, new photos from a 2007 performance by Mitchell seem to show obvious modifications to the machine used to earn at least one of those scores, a fascinating new piece of evidence in the long, contentious battle over Mitchell's place in Donkey Kong score-chasing history. The telltale joystick The photos in question were taken at the Florida Association of Mortgage Brokers (FAMB) Convention, which hosted Mitchell as part of its "80s Arcade Night" promotion in July 2007. British reality show rigs teens’ iPhones to record all their activity
A new reality series airing on Channel 4 used rigged iPhones to monitor all the digital activities of its teen characters, wrote the Columbia Journalism Review on Thursday. The system, referred to as a "digital rig" by the studio that developed it, had feeds monitored by a production team 13 hours a day, seven days a week. The Secret Life of Students was a four-part documentary series meant to portray the lives of 12 freshmen as they navigated the first four months of college. In addition to filming the students, the production studio, Raw TV, also thought it would be a good idea to track the students' activity on their phones, including Internet search history, Twitter usage, texts, and phone calls. Further Reading How movies and TV give life to the mundane text message While the entire program, phone use included, seems to have fallen a little flat, it produced some interesting moments. Twitter API no longer free as platform will begin charging, angering developers
Audio player loading… It’s a sad day for our favorite gimmick Twitter accounts, as we might have to soon say goodbye to them. Late Wednesday night, the official Twitter Developer account announced the platform will stop offering free access to the platform’s API (Application Programming Interface) on February 9. Access to Twitter API v1.1 and v2 will soon be replaced with a “paid basic tier,” which may further cripple third-party support. Twitter API (opens in new tab) allows third-party developers to access publicly available Twitter data to create bots or apps for the site. We're not just talking about bots like RemindMe_OfThis that basically remind users of tweets they come across; researchers have, in the past, used the API to track online hate speech (opens in new tab) . It appears that the developers are trying to capitalize on the sheer amount of data on the platform. As the Twitter Developer account said in a thread (opens in new tab) , “Over the … [Read more...] about Twitter API no longer free as platform will begin charging, angering developers
US Shoots Down Suspected Chinese Spy Balloon Over Atlantic
The United States shot down on Saturday what it says was a Chinese spy balloon after the object drifted over the US for several days and then sailed out over the Atlantic Ocean. "This afternoon, at the direction of President Biden, U.S. fighter aircraft assigned to U.S. Northern Command successfully brought down the high altitude surveillance balloon launched by and belonging to the People's Republic of China (PRC) over the water off the coast of South Carolina in U.S. airspace," Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III said in a statement . The US military had been tracking the balloon all week, with the Pentagon saying that Biden was first briefed about it Tuesday. The object had been seen over Montana, where several nuclear missile silos are based. While the balloon was over land, the Pentagon had advised against shooting it down over concerns about the danger from falling debris. "On Wednesday, President Biden gave his authorization to take down the surveillance balloon as … [Read more...] about US Shoots Down Suspected Chinese Spy Balloon Over Atlantic
