The US looks to kill Chinese chipmaking ambitions with ASML sales ban

What just happened? China has long sought to lessen its reliance on foreign chipmakers and focus on its home-grown options, part of the Made in China 2025 plan to update its domestic manufacturing capabilities. But those ambitions could be scuppered by the US, which wants to ban the sale of lithography tools produced by Netherlands-based ASML to the country. ASML, the world's largest supplier of lithography machines used in the chipmaking process, is already prohibited from selling its most advanced extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography equipment, which costs about $164 million per unit, to its Chinese customers as it cannot obtain an export license from the Dutch government due to pressure from the United States. Bloomberg writes that the US government is now pushing ASML to also stop selling its older deep ultraviolet (DUV) lithography tools to Chinese clients. Despite being a generation old, the technology is still used to create chips found in phones, autonomous cars, PCs, … [Read more...] about The US looks to kill Chinese chipmaking ambitions with ASML sales ban

I drove the new 2017 Ford Mustang and couldn’t even start the engine

July 11, 2017 by www.techradar.com Leave a Comment

Audio player loading… I’ve made a massive mistake. I don’t know what I’m going to do. I’m lost in the middle of the countryside with a dead car that costs far more than my annual salary and I have no way of getting in contact with anyone. OK - let’s rewind a bit.  I’ve never driven a car as a journalist (well, I have... but the two were unrelated. I can drive and I am a journalist... that’s not important though). But I came to the middle of an English forest to drive the new Ford Mustang 5.0 V8 GT, a 5-litre beast of a car that had me not sleeping the night before, such was my excitement. Usually the most-excellent John McCann writes these TechRadar Drives columns , looking at the hulking great behemoths of cars from a technology angle, the lucky beggar getting to try out hugely expensive new cars and pass judgement on them. But I’ve barely driven a car that’s worth a fifth of this Mustang I’m sat in (the convertible V8 I had starts at £41,595), and … [Read more...] about I drove the new 2017 Ford Mustang and couldn’t even start the engine

Tom Hanks Confused by Disney Replacing Tim Allen in ‘Lightyear: ‘I Don’t Understand That’

July 6, 2022 by www.breitbart.com Leave a Comment

It appears that even Tom Hanks is dumbfounded by Disney’s decision to recast actor Tim Allen with Chris Evans in Pixar’s latest Lightyear movie. Speaking with CinemaBlend, Hanks, who voiced the character Woody in the Toy Story franchise opposite Tim Allen, was asked if he felt “strange” to have his latest movie Elvis be to be in “theaters opposite a Buzz Lightyear film.” “How about that? Actually, I wanted to go head-to-head with Tim Allen, and then they didn’t let Tim Allen do it,” he told CinemaBlend. “I don’t understand that.” Hanks had little else to say when asked about the studio’s decision to replace Allen. “Here’s the thing — just as long as people come back to the motion picture theater,” he said. “I want to go back in the theater with a bunch of strangers and leave with something in common. That’s what I want to do and, going to see a movie with him [Allen] — I’m looking forward to that.” (L-R) Tom Hanks and Tim Allen attend the world premiere of … [Read more...] about Tom Hanks Confused by Disney Replacing Tim Allen in ‘Lightyear: ‘I Don’t Understand That’
