Amazfit made its formal debut in the U.S. earlier this year with the $79 Bip, and the company is launching its latest smartwatch in the country, the $159 Verge. The fitness-focused smartwatch comes with GPS + GLONASS for tracking workouts indepently of your phone, and it can automatically identify 11 forms of activities, including running, walking, climbing, cycling, tennis, and more. There's a 1.3-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 360 x 360 backed by Gorilla Glass 3 coating, and the Verge is powered by a dual-core processor and 512MB of RAM. You also get a heart rate sensor, IP68 dust and water resistance, and notification as well as call mirroring on your wrist via Bluetooth. The smartwatch also offers NFC, but as it runs a custom OS and not Wear OS, it's unclear if the feature will work with Google Pay. Huami has been manufacturing fitness bands for … [Read more...] about The $159 Amazfit Verge smartwatch is now up for pre-order in the U.S.
Out of the box, they'll let you privately listen to music, answer calls and talk to your preferred voice assistant without having to wear earbuds (albeit with only 3.5 hours of continuous playback). What you won't get, though, is Frames' signature Bose AR feature -- audio augmented reality apps won't be available until sometime in 2019, with more details coming at Austin's SXSW festival in March. You're buying these shades as much for their long-term promise as their current capabilities, so you may want to think carefully before committing to a purchase. … [Read more...] about Bose’s $199 audio AR sunglasses ship in January
Among all of its other issues since launch, some of the most dedicated Fallout fans ran into a surprising issue with their $200 "Power Armor Edition" box for Fallout 76. Despite promo materials that promised a "West Tek Canvas Carrying Bag" for the included wearable T-51 helmet, what arrived was a much more cheaply-built nylon bag. Bethesda tried to apologize by granting players 500 atoms (in-game currency worth about $5) last week, but now it's going to live up to the advertisement -- even if it's a bit late. In a tweet, Bethesda announced it's "finalizing manufacturing plans for replacement canvas bags" and said Collector's Edition purchasers should fill out a ticket by the end of January. There's no ship date specified for the bags, but at this point we just want to see something delivered that is more like what gamers thought they were getting. If they're at all disappointed by the game itself that could be a more complicated fix, but another update is rolling out today with … [Read more...] about ‘Fallout 76’ Power Armor Edition buyers will get their canvas bags
What were you doing when you were 17? Worrying about what to do with the rest of your life, or concerned over choosing the right university to go to? At that age, Tim Brownstone was reading Nasa research papers and envisioning a world where you could use infrared to heal wounds. “When I was in sixth form, I found a Nasa research paper using infrared light to make plants grow quicker. I thought, if it does this to plant cells, maybe it will help animal cells to replicate quicker, so wounds could be healed quicker,” he tells the Standard. After a degree at the University of Reading where he specialised in photo-biological wound healing, he was able to put this theory to the test. This eventually became Kymira, a smart textiles company, that today is unveiling its next project: the world’s first heart-monitoring Bluetooth t-shirt that could predict a heart attack two days before it occurs. How Kymira works Here’s the science. Kymira embeds very … [Read more...] about This ECG t-shirt can diagnose heart attacks before they happen
