One of the most exciting shifts in the smartphone world over the last few years has been the increasing availability of great mid-range options. Everybody loves a sleek flagship phone, but not everybody can or should spend the money on one — they're just overkill for some people's needs. A lot of people just want a phone for casual gaming, social media, or photography, and while that all does tend to be a little better on flagships, that's not a reason to drop upwards of $1000. You can easily get away with spending half as much or even less to accomplish the same things — and if savings aren't a good enough reason on their own, here are a few more reasons you might want to go for a mid-range phone next time you're shopping around. You don't have to sacrifice design anymore Build quality used to be a big reason to go for a flagship instead of its cheaper, plasticky counterparts, but these days phones of all prices are really, really well-made. The OnePlus 6 and Moto Z3 Play … [Read more...] about Top 3 Reasons You Should Buy a Mid-Range Phone Over a Flagship in 2018
With the rise of affordable flagships, there really isn't a compelling reason to shell out over $800 for a phone. The OnePlus 6 reinforces that belief by combining top-notch specs with a clean software interface, making it a great option over the likes of the Galaxy S9. Vivo isn't a household name in Western markets, but its latest device has the potential to change that. The Vivo NEX is the brand's most ambitious device yet, featuring a motorized slider for the front camera and an in-display fingerprint sensor. The Chinese manufacturer rose up the ranks in China and India on the back of aggressive marketing and a robust distribution network, and is now looking to make its foray into global markets. The OnePlus 6 is a fan favorite in this segment, and the Vivo NEX packs far more interesting tech and costs just $70 more. Let's see how it fares next to the OnePlus 6 in everyday usage. Where they're equal Both the Vivo NEX and OnePlus 6 are evenly matched when it comes to the hardware … [Read more...] about Vivo NEX vs. OnePlus 6: A close contest
If you're shopping for a new phone in the range of about $500, there are two big contenders you might be considering — the Moto Z3 Play and the OnePlus 6. Both Motorola and OnePlus are well-established in this price tier, and each phone offers great value in vastly different ways. Specifications A lot of the time when comparing phones at similar price points, the spec sheets end up looking almost identical, but that's really not the case at all here. If you've been paying attention to these two companies in recent years, it probably won't surprise you that OnePlus takes an easy win here. Ever since last October, the Pixel 2 has been my daily driver and go-to choice for the smartphone I want to use. It's ridiculously fast, has the best camera on the market, and is first-in-line for software updates and security patches as they roll out. The Pixel 2's been a great phone and an all-around joy to use, but for the past couple weeks, I've found myself using the OnePlus 6 instead. I still love my Pixel 2 and jump on it here and there to mess around with the Android P beta, but when it comes to the phone that's now in my pocket day after day, that title's gone to the OnePlus 6. Here's why. Why the OnePlus 6 works better for me In a lot of ways, the OnePlus 6 and Pixel 2 are more similar than they are different. Both have excellent displays, performance is blazingly fast, and even though the Pixel 2 has the upper hand, the OnePlus 6 still has a great camera. These similarities aside, though, there are some aspects of the OnePlus 6 that I find better-executed than the Pixel 2 … [Read more...] about The OnePlus 6 is now my go-to phone instead of the Pixel 2
