I, quite literally, had a rude awakening this morning. The alarm on my Galaxy S10+ went off and it felt like being woken up by being touched with electric wires. I had forgotten to turn off the vibration so its intensity was on full display when the alarm went off. It just reminded me of the fact that the haptic feedback on Samsung’s devices has always left a lot to be desired. Like other Samsung devices, it’s just too loud and strong.Leave it on the nightstand and if your apartment has thin walls, your neighbor just might hear it vibrating in the wee hours of the morning. This has always been the problem with the haptic engine on Samsung’s recent devices. It’s just too loud. You can actually hear the engine vibrating so it kind of defeats the purpose of putting your phone on vibrate. Imagine you’re in a meeting and you don’t want to bother everyone with your ringtone and yet everyone can hear your phone vibrating every time a message comes in.A lot … [Read more...] about Samsung needs to fix the haptic feedback on its smartphones
Things aren’t going too well for our favorite Korean firm. Samsung worked on its foldable phone for years, only to not test it properly in the real world and having to delay its commercial launch just a few days before it was supposed to go on sale. The company’s profits have dropped considerably, its flagship phones are being challenged by competing flagships with better cameras (especially in low-light capabilities), and its in-house mobile chipset has been left behind by the competition as well. Then there’s the fact that the Galaxy S10 comes with the same fast charging speeds that we’ve seen on Galaxy phones for five years at this point.Of course, Samsung has also gotten better at some things. The most notable is in the field of software updates. Samsung has released Android Pie for a lot of phones in just the first four months of the year, much faster than it had released any previous major Android OS upgrade. It’s pushing out security … [Read more...] about What do you think Samsung should be focusing on right now?
Now that Intel has exited the 5G modem business, Samsung’s chip-making division could be about to land a colossal contract — Apple. That’s according to renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who believes the firm will split production of the 5G modem that will be on board the 2020 iPhones between Qualcomm and Samsung, all but confirming that the 2019 iPhones won’t come with 5G on board. It’s thought that Apple decided to split production between the two manufacturers to help it negotiate a better price, forcing them to compete to undercut each other in order to win a larger share of the total contract. But given the popularity of the iPhone, it’s unlikely that the manufacturer assigned the smaller slice of the deal won’t be taking home a significant amount in profit.Samsung has worked with Apple beforeThis won’t be the first time Apple and Samsung have worked together. The Cupertino firm first commissioned our beloved Korean titan to manufacturer … [Read more...] about Samsung to supply Apple with 5G modems in 2020
