Here’s Why You Should Buy the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra
Samsung unveiled the new Galaxy S23 range in February 2023, with the Galaxy S23 Ultra being the most premium phone in the lineup. However, it has received criticism because, well, it basically looks like a Galaxy S22 Ultra. If you ask me, though, that’s a good thing. Here’s why. Galaxy Ultra S23 vs. Galaxy Ultra S22: What’s New? Let’s dive into what is different. Samsung technically got started with the Ultra range in 2019, when it launched the Galaxy S10 5G. Although it didn’t have the Ultra name back then, it had the same premise — a bigger, premium, souped-up version of the Galaxy S10 and S10+. The first proper Ultra phone came about in 2020, with the Galaxy S20 Ultra. From there, we had two entries — the Galaxy S21 Ultra and the Galaxy S22 Ultra . Both revisions came with design changes as Samsung was trying to justify the existence of this lineup. The S22 Ultra gave the lineup some sense as Samsung decided to give it several traits from the recently deceased … [Read more...] about Here’s Why You Should Buy the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

‘Letterlocked’ Trove: X-Rays to Peer into Sealed 17th-Century Notes
For years, Jana Dambrogio, a conservator at MIT, has been studying the elaborate ways people used to fold and seal their letters to keep busybodies and spies from reading their secrets. The way a paleontologist analyzes fossils to reconstruct extinct creatures, Dambrogio looks at the blobs of wax and the folding patterns on flat, already-opened letters in manuscript collections so that she can reverse-engineer "letterlocking" techniques. She had never held a historical, unopened locked letter in her hand until she got a call from her colleague, Daniel Starza Smith, at the University of Oxford. "He asked me, 'What would you do if I told you there was a trunk with 600 unopened letters?'"Dambrogio said. "He had me at 'unopened.'" [ See photos of the treasure trove of sealed 17th-century letters ] That trunk, which belonged to a 17th-century postmaster, had been sitting undisturbed in The Hague's Museum voor Communicatie since 1926. It was recently rediscovered and … [Read more...] about ‘Letterlocked’ Trove: X-Rays to Peer into Sealed 17th-Century Notes
DDoS attacks against financial firms and banks sees huge rise
Audio player loading… Distributed Denial of Service ( DDoS (opens in new tab) ) attacks are a growing problem around the world, but organizations in Europe are particularly feeling the sting, new research has found. A report (opens in new tab) from the Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center (FS-ISAC) and Akamai, claim the number of DDoS attacks against financial firms increased by almost a quarter (22%) year-on-year. Analyzing the period between November 2021 and November 2022, the researchers found that in Europe alone, the number of DDoS attacks rose by almost three-quarters (73%), making it the region with the highest rise. Of all the DDoS attacks that happened in Europe in this timeframe, roughly half targeted financial institutions.
