Earlier this month, CNBC's Jim Cramer was discussing Cisco Systems on his "Mad Money" talk show. One of the markets he discusses frequently is the collaboration space, and he called a recent Cisco Webex TV ad "quite compelling." After he made the comment, I watched the ad and agreed with Cramer because it highlighted much of the recent innovation from the Webex group. Educating buyers on what's new can be difficult, but showing them how those things can be used can be even more difficult. The real-world uses cases are what I thought made the ad compelling. As an analyst and IT pro before that, I've been looking at collaboration tools since the days of the roll-around video carts. During that time, I do not remember a year in which there has been as much innovation as this past one. Much of the recent innovation was driven by the increased reliance on these tools, and many people were forced to work remotely because of the pandemic. One of the challenges vendors like Cisco have is … [Read more...] about New Cisco Webex ad shows rapid evolution of collaboration
The big picture: Amazon barely missed on its revenue estimate and generated near-record-setting profit during Q2, yet the stock is still taking a beating in early morning trading largely due to Amazon's third quarter guidance. But that could all change should the pandemic ramp back up as some believe could happen. Amazon has released its first quarterly earnings report with newly minted CEO Andy Jassy at the helm, who took over for founder Jeff Bezos earlier this month. In the three-month period ending June 30 (which included Prime Day this year), Amazon generated $113.1 billion in total net sales , representing a 27 percent increase quarter over quarter. That’s a tad shy of Refinitiv analysts’ average estimate of $115 billion, but profit checked in at a very healthy $7.8 billion – Amazon second largest quarterly profit ever. In the year-ago quarter, Amazon generated just $5.2 billion in net income. Looking ahead, Amazon expects net sales to check in between $106 billion and … [Read more...] about Amazon releases first quarterly report under new CEO Andy Jassy
2021 has been a weird year for smartphones. Well, it’s been a weird year for a lot of things, but smartphones have been no exception, with a number of them being delayed, canceled or getting a limited launch. The Samsung Galaxy Note 21 is the biggest casualty of the year in smartphones, as Samsung has now confirmed that it won’t be coming , but it’s not alone in being absent. The OnePlus 9T is also rumored to be canceled (assuming it was ever planned), while the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE has reportedly been delayed (but may also fail to launch), and the Google Pixel 5a is only confirmed to be launching in the US and Japan , rather than the world at large. So what’s going on? There are a number of factors at play, and some things we know for sure, while others we can take an educated guess at. Below then, we’ll explain broadly why many anticipated phones are likely arriving late – or not at all. The Covid-19 factor The obvious reason that this has … [Read more...] about Why do 2021’s smartphones – like the Galaxy Note 21 – keep being delayed or canceled?
If spending upwards of £1,000 on the latest premium smartphone sounds like a tough sell, then what about once those premium smartphones are no longer as fresh as they used to be? While we absolutely love the iPhone 12 Pro Max and the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra , both devices rolled out in 2020. That makes them relatively long in the tooth in smartphone terms, which makes a direct comparison all the more fascinating. There was little to separate these two titanic phones when they first hit the market, with both securing 9 out of 10 ‘Recommended’ awards from us. So how do they stack up to one another now that they’re a little more seasoned? iPhone 12 Pro Max vs Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra price and availability The iPhone 12 Pro Max landed with a bang on November 13, with pricing starting at $1,099 / £1,099 / AU$1,849 for the 128GB model. That leaps up to $1,199 / £1,199 / AU$2,019 for 256GB, and $1,399 / £1,399 / AU$2,369 for 512GB. The Samsung Galaxy Note … [Read more...] about iPhone 12 Pro Max vs Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra: old rivals get ultra-competitive

The Asus Chromebook Flip (C302CA-DHM4) ($499) is priced to compete with entry-level Windows laptops, yet has the look and feel of a premium offering. Its metal body construction, backlit keyboard, beautiful screen, and long battery life make it a very attractive alternative to yet another plastic laptop. Although ostensibly an update of the Chromebook Flip ($249.00 at Amazon) , one of Asus's earlier convertible laptops, this iteration is all new, and an excellent evolution of the chromebook in general. High-Quality Design The body of the Chromebook Flip ($699.99 at Amazon) is all aluminum and glass, making it look like a silver Apple MacBook Pro ($808.85 at Amazon) on a smaller scale. Two hinges allow the lid to rotate 360 degrees, so you can use the Flip in Laptop, Stand, Tent, or Tablet mode. The last three modes hide the keyboard to give you unobstructed access to the touch screen. The laptop measures 0.53 by 11.96 by 8.26 inches (HWD) and weighs 2.43 pounds. That's … [Read more...] about Asus Chromebook Flip (C302CA-DHM4) Review
