Apple announces WatchOS 7; gets sleep tracker, new workout modes and more

June 22, 2020 by www.gadgetsnow.com Leave a Comment

At its first virtual WorldWide Developer Conference, Apple has announced a new software update for its Apple Watch series. The company has launched the WatchOS 7 today at the event where the company showcased all the new features that the Apple Watch users will soon get.

One of the biggest updates Apple Watch users will be getting this year is the sleep tracker. The sleep tracker will be integrated with iPhone and will let users track their sleeping pattern, set an alarm and sleep goals and more. Users will also be able to get highlights of their sleeping pattern over weeks to track their progress. The app will come with a ‘Wind Down’ mode that is aimed at making it easier to get Apple Watch users ready to go to bed by snoozing notifications.

Another interesting feature that will be part of the upcoming WatchOS is hand washing support. This feature, called Automatic Handwashing Detection, will automatically detect if a user is washing their hands and with the sound of the music with the mic to start a countdown of 20 seconds — which is the ideal time to wash your hands as per experts. In the case an Apple Watch user washes their hands for less time, this feature will alert the user to continue to Wahi their hands.

Apple has also renamed the Activity app to Fitness and has added support for new workout type to detect dances using different motions using sensor fusion. Other workout types that Apple has added are Core Training, Functional Strength Training, and Cool Down.

Coming to watch faces, Apple will also allow users to add Watch faces from friends, websites, and in apps. Further, users will be able to have multiple complications on a single face that can also be shared among Apple Watch users.

The developer beta of watchOS 7 is available to Apple Developer Program members at developer.apple.com now. A public beta will be available for watchOS users next month at beta.apple.com, which will be a first. The watchOS 7 will be rolled out to users of Apple Watch Series 3, Apple Watch Series 4 and Apple Watch Series 5 that will be paired with iPhone 6s or later running iOS 14 or later.
