- Vietnam’s prime minister has reprimanded Dinh Quoc Thai, chairman of the southern province of Dong Nai, for approving an urban plan without compliance with law and negligently letting his vice chairmen illegally sign documents on several local projects.
- Doctors have advised against using a medicine partially known as Cere, produced from proteins in pig’s brain, for treatment of weakened concentration powers, after a number of Vietnamese with the condition had themselves injected with the substance on the strength of rumor.
- An official in Thanh Hoa Province, northern Vietnam, said the local government is just beginning to deal with the situation where a long stretch of its beach has been thickly strewn with rubbish for about five years, causing many problems for the livelihood of coastal residents.

- Over 52 percent of workers at shoes and clothing companies with a large number of staff members have to do overtime only to make ends meet, while only 16 percent can earn sufficient money for savings, an official from the Vietnam Trade Unions said at a press conference on Wednesday, citing a recent survey.
- The Ministry of Finance has proposed imposing a ten percent excise tax on sweetened beverages and lifting their value-added tax by two percent as of 2019, raising worries and opposition from multiple domestic beverage manufacturers.
- A representative from Toyota Vietnam on Wednesday told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that the firm is in the middle of leasing an additional nine hectares of land for factory building from the administration in Vinh Phuc Province, to the north of Hanoi, in a plan to increase the yearly number of cars produced in Vietnam from the present 50,000 to an expected 90,000 by 2025.
- Bernd Bauer, Chief Executive Officer at Edelweiss Air AG, said Wednesday that the airline will operate two direct flights a week between Ho Chi Minh City and Zurich from November, as the time span of Vietnamese tourists staying Switzerland has surged over the past few years.

- Dang Khac Dung, a man in the north-central province of Nghe An, has built a four-story house on a 200-square-meter plot of land previously purchased from his savings and donations of others expressly for a library for local children, becoming the first person in the area to make such a public-spirited dedication. The library, opening every day, also has free facilities for games of chess and ping pong, computer use, entertainment and meals.
