Superman fans no longer need X-ray vision to glimpse how Jesse Eisenberg will look as Lex Luther in the upcoming “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.”
The first look photo of a bald-pated Eisenberg from “Batman v. Superman” surfaced Wednesday on Entertainment Weekly with all the pomp and circumstance worthy of one of comics’ biggest baddies.
“He’s not any of the Lexes that you’ve seen, that’s for sure,” director Zack Snyder told EW. “Other than him being a captain of industry and one person to the world and another person to himself.
“And bald, of course.”
The big photo reveal comes exactly one year ahead of the film’s March 25, 2016, release date.
Eisenberg, who got some experience portraying a power-hungry CEO while making “The Social Network,” will have tough loafers to fill.
The part of Superman’s arch-nemesis has previously been played by Hollywood heavyweights Gene Hackman and Kevin Spacey.
But the New York City-born Eisenberg’s casting elicited a mixed reaction on the social media, especially after rumors had circulated earlier that “Breaking Bad” star Bryan Cranston was being eyed for the role.
“Hey Zack Snyder, You misheard us. We said Heisenberg NOT Eisenberg!,” quipped one Twitter user at the time when the casting news broke last year.
After seeing Eisenberg’s Luthor in his glory, however, hearts and minds are likely being won over.
Warner Bros. has high hopes for “Dawn of Justice,” which will have Henry Cavill’s Superman facing off against Ben Affleck’s Batman. Israeli actress Gal Gadot has been lassoed into playing Wonder Woman and Jason Momoa will rule the seas as Aquaman in the movie.
A de facto sequel to last year’s “Man of Steel,” “Dawn of Justice” is the studio’s answer to rival Marvel Studios’ successful “Avengers” franchise, which merges several individual superheroes into one huge superhero team franchise.
There are big and nefarious plans afoot in that wider cinematic universe for Eisenberg’s Luthor, who is expected to reprise the role in director David Ayers’ “Suicide Squad” after “Dawn of Justice.”
